Confirm duplicate library additions

Unless you scan your library in a very orderly fashion, there's always a possibility of adding the same book twice.

You can edit and delete, of course, but it would be handy if a little alert went off when you entered or scanned a book that's already been added asking if you're sure you want to add a duplicate copy.

If you are entering single books on the Add books page, there is a warning of the duplicate just after the book is added, making it easy to check and to discard the new addition.

If you want to see whether you have duplicates, you can check Profile>Charts and Graphs>Odds and Ends>Work Duplicates

You currently have 9 duplicate listings, some probably should stay, others can probably be deleted.

In all this, it should be noted that this only applies if the newly added book combines with the work the other copy is in.

I found this thread while looking for a setting to add a book only if the ISBN is not yet in my catalogue. I looked around in the "take inventory" settings, but I couldn't find anything to search and add without a lot of additional clicks. It'd also make sense to have a "skip duplicates" checkbox on the Add Books page, but sadly I can't find such a setting there either.

It's better than nothing for the Add Books page's recently-added list to put that big red warning on duplicate ISBNs so that I can remove the duplicate in 2 clicks, but it would be better still to have never added the duplicate in the first place :)

Looking for a solution to avoid adding duplicate books when scanning ISBNs of books, unfortunately books are added immediately to my library without any way of checking.
More of a comment here really as I am unable to find reference to this anywhere!
Ho hum... will continue to search.

If you're using the app, I suggested this a while ago: https://www.librarything.com/topic/287335
