Hello! I'm the new admin for this group.

Greetings, all. I've just been designated the admin for this group, so I thought I'd introduce myself briefly and then ask some questions as to what you'd like to see this group get up to.

I've been listening to audiobooks since I was a child; and I'm far from a young man now. So many, many years of devoted and delighted listening. I have also been a long time volunteer narrator for the State of Texas talking book program, which is dedicated to making books, magazines, and any other kind of printed material available on demand to the blind and visually challenged. Since retiring from my day job, I've taken up audiobook narration and production as my "night job". I call it my night job because my home studio is a lot quieter in the wee hours of the morning. At this point, I have well over 100 titles now available through Audible, Kobo, iTunes, and other distributors. These include solo narration projects as well as collaborative productions, such as plays and full-cast dramatic readings.

My goal as admin for this group is to make it the best it can be based on what you, the membership, want it to be. I can be involved as little or as much as you'd feel comfortable with. I asked LT what my "job description" was as group admin, and Abigail kindly gave me a list of things I can do. Here it is, with my initial thoughts on each of my duties and a request for any input from you.

Rewrite the group description This should probably happen. At least it could be enhanced a little to better describe the topic. I would like to come up with a draft and share it with you all. I'd appreciate any suggestions or comments.
Change basic group parameters, like whether the group is open or closed. It's currently open and should remain so, IMO. Thoughts?
Add and remove group pictures Maybe at some point, but not for a while. Thoughts?
Create "pinned topics" that stick to the top of the group page I don't have any thing specific in mind for this, but I thought I'd root around and see the types of things other admins "pin" for their groups. Ideas?
Get notified when new members come to the group, so they can say hello, if they want to Perhaps I could post a welcome for each new member and ask if they'd like to introduce themselves. Sound OK?
Open the group for new admin applications I'm totally OK with sharing admin duties here. If anyone is interested, just let me know.
Assign a new admin to the group If you'd like to be an admin, pm me. I won't assign anyone who hasn't asked for it.

That's enough for now. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Happy listening!

Greetings John, thanks for the introduction! All those points sound valid. My only suggestion is for pinned items being discussions about best practices for dealing with audio books in LT - organizing and/or importing.

I don't socialize on LT as much as I used to, so I apologize for the late response! I would love a topic on audiobook awards. I know (and love) the Audies, but are there other audio awards out there? When should we start watching for award announcements? Is there a LT list of award-winning audiobooks already? If not, should there be? etc.

I'm glad that you are on board.

I like recommendations on the best new audiobooks out there, and how to access them. (Is it just me, or is Amazon Audible monopolizing a lot of new releases?)

There is usually an annual list on LT for the Top 5 books that LT members have read in the last year (not necessarily books published that year). I use that list frequently to pick out reading material for the next year. Something like that just for audiobooks would very useful to me.
