barcode scanners

Looking around my house at the full bookcases, bulging boxes stacked up in the corners, and overflowing into the garage, I realized I needed help! Either needed a psychiatrist, or----a barcode scanner to catalog my books!
I got online and ordered a little handheld barcode scanner. This unit would input to my PC directly with a USB cable, or also Bluetooth if the PC had it, or also with the dongle that came with the scanner.
I use the dongle that gave my PC Bluetooth. I then used the barcodes in the user manual to pair up the dongle with the scanner. I set the scanner to enter ISBN's directly upon scan.
I went to the add books, page and scanned a book. And it worked! The only problem with this is that I would have to do one book at a time and enter my tags.
I wanted to scan a bunch of ISBN's in a group and dumped them into library thing for it to add to my book list. I noted on the import books page that it would scan text messages and also XML files for the ISBN's to load into library thing.
I started up my Microsoft Word program and started a blank document as an experiment, I got some 30 feet away from the computer and I got several books and bar scanned all of them one after the another. Jogged back to my PC and found all of the ISBN's were listed on the page of the document. I then save the document as an XML file. After it downloaded to my computer I change the file name to "scanned ISBN's"
I then went to the add books page, and in the indicated box I entered that filename. I then clicked on the box import file.
Library thing came back and told me it would take a minute or two to chew on the file I had downloaded to it. After I went to get a drink of water and came back all of those ISBN's were loaded into my catalog of books!
The psychiatrist will have to wait for another patient, because I have books to scan !
