I won Alzheimer's Canyon: One Couple's Reflections on Living with Dementia by Jane Dwindell & Sky Yardley, which I received in the mail this afternoon. After the sudden death of my father in December I resigned from my job in order to move back home and serve as primary caregiver for my mother, who has moderate Alzheimer's disease and requires 24/7 care, so this book is as timely to me as any I'll read this year.

I won a copy of "The Zee Files" really looking forward to it and I believe my future students will as well. I will complete my Elementary Education teaching certification in December 2023.

I am currently a special education paraprofessional, working with students in various grades.

>11 kidzdoc: my deepest sympathies on the passing of your father, I helped to care for my grandmother when she was dealing with Alzheimer's disease, its so heart wrenching for the family.

>13 wd40sw: Thank you. It is a heart wrenching condition, and although my father died of another cause, it was Alzheimer's disease that was truly the cause of his death, as he devoted so much attention to my mother that he stopped caring for his own needs adequately.

>11 kidzdoc: I am so sorry to learn of the death of your father. Please accept my condolences.

I also live with and care for my mother, who currently had mild dementia. Judging by my aunt (my mother's elder sister), it will eventually get worse.

Sending good thoughts and fellow feeling your way!

I received Book of Extraordinary Tragedies by Joe Meno. I was turned onto this author through another Early Reviewer by him, so I'm really looking forward to this book.

>16 AbigailAdams26: Thank you, Abigail. Unfortunately you're right, the dementia will ultimately progress and worsen, though hopefully not as rapidly as it did for Sky Yardley, the co-author of Alzheimer's Canyon; he died less than five years after he was diagnosed with 'probable early onset Alzheimer's disease.' I'll write a review of it this weekend, but I would recommend it to anyone who is in any way affected by dementia.

My mother's deterioration has been much slower, and, actually, in many ways she is actually better now than she was before and especially after my father's death, thanks in large part to several medications that she was started on earlier this year.

I would be more than happy to privately discuss medications and other modalities that have proven helpful for her.

>17 PaperbackPirate: Thank you, Nicole; I greatly appreciate your thoughts and concern.

Thank you for that kind offer! I will definitely keep it in mind.
