Early 2000s Romance Suspense

I think I read this in 2004 or 2005. I remember it being about a woman who comes back to her family home after her father who she's estranged from passes away. I believe she inherits the house, but she can't evict her father's family. She starts a relationship with her stepbrother. He helps her when it looks like someone is trying to kill her and they try to figure out who is after her.

I remember that it takes place in the south and he calls her "cherie". It also has different perspectives, I remember the stepmom and the stepsister having their own chapters along with other characters.

A specific scene I remember is that as a child she sees her dad and her future stepmom having sex in the carriage house.
