Sad to hear of Hilary Mantel‘s death yesterday
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2022/sep/23/hilary-mantel-author-wolf-hall-die...

A wonderful and funny writer, one of my favourites.

She wrote the introductions to the Folio editions of Religion and the Decline of Magic and A Tale of Two Cities (2005 edition).

It would seem from Folio's note of her passing that 'Wolf Hall' is an upcoming edition. I only hope that it is given the treatment it deserves.

"We are devastated to hear that Hilary Mantel has died. She was undoubtedly one of Britain’s great modern writers. We were very fortunate to have worked with her on many introductions for Folio, and indeed on an upcoming edition of her magnificent Wolf Hall. She was always generous and deeply gracious, with a fearsome and brave intellect. Above all she was a superlative crafter of words, and of worlds. She will be bitterly missed."

This is sad news indeed.
"Wolf Hall" would be an instant buy for me with hopes for the full trilogy from the FS. The opportunities for fine illustrations are ample.

>3 Forthwith: I agree on both points, in that Hilary Mantel is a big loss and Wolf Hall would be an instant buy for me as well.

>3 Forthwith:

I haven't read anything by her, but Wolf Hall in an FS edition would be something I'd love to buy, and would hope for the complete trilogy.

I would like a Folio edition of Beyond Black. Amazing novelist - every book is completely different.

Folio would really have to mess up Wolf Hall for me not to purchase.

>7 HuxleyTheCat: I’m hoping they keep it quite traditional & don’t go down the (rather divisive) Rob Roy LE design route.

You just *know* they’ll do the most frustrating thing possible and cancel the series after book 2.

>8 antinous_in_london: Absolutely. I don't mind if it's 'safe', I just don't want tasteless. Which I admit is in the eye of the beholder, but elegant will do.
