I am going to add to my library a work, titled - Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales - Selected & Illustrated by Lisbeth Zweger.
The image of the cover ( light blue with little boys climbing onto a photo ). appears correctly. you can see that the title is not "10" fairy tales.

uppermost description says 8 fairy tales; disambiguation lists 10- but has left out "Swineherd"
my copy clearly contains 11- but no numeral appears in the title.
do I assume that there is a copy with 8? a copy with ten? a copy with ten in the title? and my copy with 11?

>1 EGBERTINA: There's definitely books to be separated there because some don't even have the same title, but for those with the same title, it could be done by ISBN for those that have it. Someone put the canonical title and a list of tales included to help differentiate it from other Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales, but it clearly doesn't contain just those editions. If you're not up to untangling to whole mess, you can separate your own edition and others with the same iSBN into a separate work and then add into disambiguation notice what tales that work contains.
Also, I don't think it's appropriate that the canonical title was changed to 10 Tales, since none of the editions actually have 10 in the title

I think someone put the ten tales in the canonical- to help differentiate- it- not realizing it might also create a separate problem.
I don't get upset by canonicals; but I try to avoid messing with them, because they are one of those hot-bed topics, that truly raise the dander. we have all had to do it, I presume; especially in a works similar to HCA. in which there are thousands of editions with the exact same title- but all differing translators etc. sometimes, putting the translator in the title is all that you can do to differentiate it from so many other translators. usually, it helps that its slapped on the title pages, too.

>3 EGBERTINA: But normally a canonical in such cases is the normal title + something used to differentiate, so it would be Hans Christian Andersen's Fairytales (10 tales) or something like that, making it clear what the title actually is. '10 Andersen Fairy Tales: Selected and Illustrated by Lisbeth Zwerger' makes it look it is the actual title, when it really isn't.

just saying I think I know why someone tried it. maybe there is an edition that says ten selections; I just haven't seen it. At this point if I come across a copy I will be sure to note it in the CK. I think I came across a few of these and they were all from the nineties and the same text that I have.
