Refreshing the Currently Reading collections returns it to a state that is weeks old

Today I did some extensive cleanup on my Currently Reading collection, finally writing some long-overdue reviews and clearing those books from the collection (they remain in other collections, including Read in 2023). When I clicked Refresh to see the newly pared down collection, it defaulted to showing me all the books (none) from a search that I did weeks if not months ago ('Heller').

If I clear the search term by clicking the 'x', all of the books that I removed from Currently Reading are back. I have to navigate to a different collection (which also default to showing books that match the 'Heller' search term until I clear it) and then return to Currently Reading to see only the books that are actually in the collection. This happened repeatedly, as in six or seven times in a short span of time, before I figured I ought to write a bug report.

Tech specs:
2019 iMac
macOS Ventura, version 13.3.1 (a)
Safari, version 16.4

Well, that's odd indeed. Can you tell me what happens if you clear your browser's cache/cookies? Does this happen if you try another browser?

Can you clarify if the books you removed from your Currently Reading collection are in fact still in the collection or have they been removed as expected? That's unclear to me. What are some of the titles you removed from the Collection, if they're still showing up there?

Also, do you happen to have any browser add-ons or extensions at all, on Safari? Thanks for your help.

>2 kristilabrie: Thanks for confirming it's odd! This morning the persistent search is still happening, but when I clear it by clicking the x button to dismiss it, my Currently Reading collection looks as it should with the books I had removed yesterday no longer appearing. So that's a very good thing. Refreshing the window still defaults to the 'Heller' search term, though.

I generally only use Safari on my iMac but I do have Firefox installed, so I opened it and logged in to LibraryThing. The 'Heller' search term isn't an issue (presumably because I never made that search in this browser) BUT when did a test search of my catalog for a different term — 'harper' — in Currently Reading it came up with the expected 0 books. I cleared the search by clicking the X in the search banner, and then saw the Currently Reading collection as expected. But when I click the Refresh button, it again defaulted to the 'harper' search term state. So that part is not browser specific, at least.

I don't have any extensions installed in Firefox because I never use it except for troubleshooting like this. I do have a few extensions in Safari and can list them in another message if you think it would be useful, but the fact that this occurs across browsers would seem to indicate it's not an extension conflict, I think.

I haven't tried clearing the cache/cookies yet — still hoping there might be a less nuclear option. And Firefox shouldn't have much of anything in the cache since I never use it — in fact I did have to log in to LibraryThing when I first opened it because I'm not sure I've ever used Firefox to visit LT.

If there are other tests or information I can give you, just let me know. This is obviously not a dire situation but it's puzzling, and I don't like unsolved puzzles. :-)

I'm wondering if you're going to your current reading collection from a bookmark or by clicking a link on the home page/elsesite to come to Current Reading.
Because the persistent search might be in the bookmarked link.

>4 gilroy: I always have the Your Books tab open in my browser. I quit the browser at the end of the day, but when I re-open in the morning all the tabs that were open at Quit re-open. So I'm not using a bookmark or even typing the URL in the browser's navigation bar.

When I tested in Firefox, because I never use that browser I had to type in LibraryThing.com and then sign in, which took me to my home page. From there, I clicked on Your Books to get to my catalog, and experienced the same persistent search issue.

>5 rosalita: The good news is that eliminates that as a research path for the developers. :)

Clearing your search term with the X doesn't reset the URL in the address bar. It's been like that for ages. I'm not saying it's not a bug; it just has done that for as long as I can remember. Replication steps for getting a "persistent" search.

Go to "Your Books"
Search for a term ( example from my catalog: https://www.librarything.com/catalog/lesmel?&deepsearch=wizard )
You will have a list of results
Click the X to clear the results
The catalog refreshes and shows all titles
Refresh the browser window and the searched term is back.
Looking at the URL during these steps, using the X may clear the results; but the actual address never changes.

Video here.
