W is my favorite SD bookstore and I thought I would share a little known story about it. Some ten years ago, I was planning a trip to visit family in northern Michigan. My daughter had loved the movie "Somewhere In Time" starring Christopher Reeve. I therefore reserved rooms for us at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island where the movie was filmed. In preparation for the trip, I went to W to find the book on which the movie was based: Bid Time Return by Richard Matheson. The W's owner, Chuck Valverde, stated he did not have the book; however, he noted that it was written by Matheson when he was staying at the Hotel Del, a Victorian pile not unlike that of the Grand Hotel. Moreover, when Christopher Reeve visits a bookstore to research the actress with whom he had become enamored, in the book that bookstore is the W. Small world.

That's awesome!
Myself, I am rather addicted to that bookstore. I even posted them on LT Local. I told them about it and about this site. They seemed intrigued. Anyway, they know me. But, I miss that other guy's shop that was down here. He had some very interesting books that were always on display.

My favorite bookstore is Yellow Book Road, although I can never take the boys in with me since the owner is so good at suggesting books they'll like -- she's always right, and I always end up buying more than planned! :)

Efram's in the downtown area, before he closed down and moved away, was my favorite simply because he'd display all the bizarre, unique books. I never had to search for anything---there was always something worth buying.
I miss that store.
I miss that store.

Wahrenbrock's is simply the best bookstore in town. Have you asked to go into the rare books room yet? A friend told me about it several years ago and the next time I went in I asked about it. They escorted me upstairs and unlocked the room to let me in. In my opinion, there's no better way to feel like a VIP.
