I'm a man of few words, so the title says it all. This is for everyone who's read The Crucible of Creation, or the inferior Wonderful Life.

(Link filched from Carl Zimmer's blog.)

Doubly cool, especially since I'm going to get a chance to visit the Burgess Shale this summer. Thanks!

Great movie. Amazing to see what we can do with special effects.
However, although I enjoyed both books, my nod goes to Wonderful Life. Both have good science (ok Crucible was a bit better). However, Stephen j. Gould really conveys the 'wonder' and the magnificence of the Burgess Shale. Unfortunately, Morris often comes across as rather bitter - especially with respect to anything Gould said.

Fyrefly. Good luck on the hike to the Shale. Hope you have booked already (you must go with an official guide). I highly recommend Paul McNeil if you get a choice on the hike. He is both a great guide and a paleontologist that really knows his stuff.

It is quite a gorgeous hike with incredible views. And of course you end with a chance to time travel back to over 500 million years ago. The fossils litter the side of the mountain and you are invited to sort through them so it is worth studying the different types before you get there. (I actually thought I had found a pikaia - they are quite rare).
