This is just a heads up to announce that the Benjamin Franklin library is now 10% complete. (When you're making slow progress on a large collection, you have to celebrate the small things.)

Some fun stats:

The top three languages in Benjamin Franklin's library are English, French and Latin.
Most popular tags: Great Britain, politics and government, United States
Most popular books: Fables / Jean de la Fontaine, A serious call to a devout and holy life / William Law, De rerum natura libri sex / Titus Lucretius Carus

We're still looking for volunteers, so contact pdxwoman if you're interested.

Sorry to be slow in offering congrats for this, but congrats indeed! It looks awesome so far.

Incidentally, new Legacy Joseph Priestley (http://www.librarything.com/profile/JosephPriestley) just tried to befriend his buddy Ben, but found that he's not accepting friends. Where's the love? :-)

Oops! Sorry about the "no friends." I think I've fixed it. :)

Whew. The good doctor was getting lonely.

Aww. And now they're friends. :) (This feels weirdly like the Sims. Maybe we can reconcile Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr?)

... or add a new section for "people I shot!"

That new section would be real handy if we ever determined that Andrew Jackson owned books...

Slander!

It's funny, I haven't come across very much at all on the libraries/book collections of either Hamilton or Burr. If anybody has any resources on those, I'd certainly be interested in seeing them.

...or Dick Cheney!

(Sorry, I couldn't resist. I will go back to lurking now.)

We're now 20% complete.

The top books are now Utopia by Thomas More, Paradise Lost by John Milton, and Common Sense by Thomas Paine. (I was all impressed that Franklin owned a first edition copy of Common Sense, until I actually thought about it. :) )

Paradise Regained would also be up there, too, but it's part of a tricky edition which doesn't combine well.

Nice, well done! I'm about to do a blog-post which will hopefully bring out some more volunteers to him and the other ongoing projects.

August was a quiet month for the Franklin Library, owing to the fact that I was busy moving and then haven't yet had the internet hooked up at the new place. We did, however, reach the 1,000 volume mark early in the month. :)

Not really an update to Franklin's library, but I really liked this and wanted to share:

Now, to clean out the couch cushions and vacuum the car.
