I would dearly love to be able to include defunct bookstores & events. A great way to find kindred spirits!
Seems like that's not included now -- are there rules against it? or just a lack of interest?

Tim was supposed to include some kind of checkbox that would gray out closed venues but still keep them in the database so you could favorite them and comment on them and such, but it hasn't happened yet.

Could the little pin marker be a skull!? Maybe we should save that for author grave sites... I know. I have problems.

Okay, we really, really need the checkbox or skull or whatever, because I just undeleted Paperbacks Plus (in NYC), which someone nuked because it closed down in June, but we do need to have the listing in the system, because I sure as hell didn't know it closed down and I don't think everyone who comes to LTL will know either.

Yeah. A checkbox, along with an "obit" field to give any explanations and dates needed.
.... also, how did you undelete it?

At the bottom of the "helpers" page is a list of "recently deleted venues," which have links to the "archived" versions of the pages, from which you can undelete them. There is currently no distinction between "archived" and "deleted" so there's no way I know of to retrieve the listing unless you know the number or use the Helpers page.

I just created the page for New York Comic Con 2009 and left a note asking people not to delete NYCC 2008. And no, we can't use the same page, because 2008 had some 100+ events and so will 2009 I'm sure, and the page will be a pain to load...
I really want my checkbox. ::sniffle::

Right now, defunct is *just* a checkbox and the words "defunct." It's no different from having food or being an IndieBound store. So, yes, you can. As I recall you clone by editing it.

Robin's Bookstore in Philadelphia is going defunct, as of November 26, 2008. Seventy-three years, and soon to be gone.

Actually, Robin's Bookstore in Philadelphia has been running a series of high discount sales, which are still continuing.
I have made Big Jar Bookstore defunct. The former owner is now running Brickbat Books instead.

It may be too early to judge if defunct, but the Book Affair in Melbourne has fallen victim to the heat and is right now on fire.
Time will tell if they become defunct or not :-(

I wish there was a way to view previous version of a venue, because someone else blanked out an entry and then deleted it:

(I undeleted it just to take a look, then re-deleted it since it's no good now.)
I wish people wouldn't do that.
Also, the Free Library System of Philadelphia is supposedly shutting down... we'll have to keep an eye out to make sure people don't purge it from the system.

I have posted the closing as an event on the Philadelphia local page. Brief details there, more details at
