Princeps' Fury is due out, according to amazon, on Nov. 25th 2008. I don't know if you all have seen the description, but here it is.

Tavi of Calderon, now recognized as Princeps Gaius Octavian and heir to the crown, has achieved a fragile alliance with Alera's oldest foes, the savage Canim. But when Tavi and his legions guide the Canim safely to their lands, his worst fears are realized.

The dreaded Vord—the enemy of Aleran and Cane alike—have spent the last three years laying waste to the Canim homeland. And when the Alerans are cut off from their ships, they find themselves with no choice but to fight shoulder to shoulder if they are to survive.

For a thousand years, Alera and her furies have withstood every enemy, and survived every foe.

The thousand years are over . . .

I just wish I didn't crack the naming code halfway into Academ's =( really ruined the shock of Cursor's (being vague to avoid those damn spoilers)

Lug...the thread title already says that spoilers might be here. So those who haven't read the previous books enter at their own risk.

When I read these book there has been been very little shock value. Its not a mystery that I am reading...its a good fantasy-eske story with lots of action and fun filled lines.

Knight Pisces- awesomely terrible rank

also Tavi being the Princeps and Isana being his mom not aunt-decent plot twist

But can someone tell me what in the HELL a metal fury looks like because I'm thinking robomutt (like Brutus) and is Rill humanoid, beastesque, or just one big ass river?

sep 4, 2008, 3:40 am

I dont think fury's were ever given a shape as in a natural state. I get the impression they appear to the user as the user see's them. Isana see's a younger version of herself and Max's water one appeared as a kind of chinese lion thing he read about in a book. But in a natural state I dont think JB has ever really mentioned it.

10Irisheyz77
sep 4, 2008, 9:22 am

furies also aren't really named either...at least the "civilized" high lords don't do so.

Casp is also right in saying that furies don't have a set form. They appear however the bonded person makes them appear.

I'm not afraid of being ruined...but I know that I will be upset once I hit the end and can't just plow right though to the end!

It is the begining of another mind blowing experience. *happy sigh*

So I'm trying to decide if I should re-read all four previous books in preparation for Princeps' Fury.

I was like I'll just re-read Captain's, but I really liked Cursors; it was probably my favorite. But then Academ's is also good, and so is Furies of Calderon.

*sigh*

I have a bit more time to decide. I'll probably just end up re-reading them all but only my favorite parts, i.e. all the parts that directly involve Tavi.

now there is an interesting way to read the books. might have to try that some time. =)

I definately re-read the first three, i don't own the fourth one right now, kinda tight on cash. I know i loved Cursor's Fury the best.

I plan to locate a copy of the new one when it comes out though. I can't wait.

I would like to say that the version of Tavi on the cover is SO not what I picture and not at all as cute/handsome as I see his as.

21CursorsFury
nov 4, 2008, 1:25 pm

I'm a little dissapointed. Amazon says that Priceps is only 400 pages while Captains was 528. I wish it was longer.

22Irisheyz77
nov 4, 2008, 3:32 pm

400 pages? That definately isn't long enough!

23Caspettee
nov 4, 2008, 6:16 pm

Heck no. We should protest. All series authors should work on the JK Rowling method of each sucessive book being heaps bigger then the last :)

24Irisheyz77
nov 4, 2008, 6:56 pm

if that is the method used then he's following hte right path. her's grew to book 5 then they began to shrink for 6 & 7. if he follows that pattern the last book will be even shorter. and we don't want that!

25Irisheyz77
nov 4, 2008, 7:29 pm

RE: the cover

I agree with CF. The Tavi they used is NOT my idea of him. I expect someone a little younger...more boyish. and definately cuter!

Only 21 days until its officially out. Though I will be checking my local Borders periodically to see if it gets put out early. They did it with Captain's Fury...so I am hopeful.

26Caspettee
nov 4, 2008, 10:40 pm

Oh yea good point. I forgot about that.

I cant say I am sold on the cover either. I wonder if JB ha much say in it, because if he did then thats ok as clearly JB knows what Tavi should look like. If it was some publishers guess then bleah shoot the publisher.

Casp...I'm sure you'll be able to get the book soon. Just keep begging your library or bookstore to get it in stock. They'll eventually do so because they will want to shut you up.

Ive already been upgrading my library it seems nearly everything I ask for they dont have and then seem to order....I got my local to purchase its first Harry Potter book a year or so ago. I believe it is my personal mission to get that library up to scratch :)

How the heck can a library not own Harry Potter? That's rather rediculous.

nov 27, 2008, 3:54 am

*shuffles in her corner* um oh dear me I apolgise my library is not that backwards I meant Harry Dresden I have been sick with the flu and a bit stuffy in the head lately. But there have been lots of books that are best sellers which the library does not have or didnt till I asked. The librarian seems to look a little scared when I walk up to the request counter.

Finished the book today and loved it. For those who don't know, you can still buy an autographed copy from dogeared books if you like, they have, like, 12 left. I was really...pleased with how this one was written. I can't really point out any differences from the previous books other than Tavi is now older and so no longer dealing with childhood/competency issues, and Isana is no longer an annoying "woe is the burden of my life" character.

I did think the events at the Imperia were kind of ... sudden in their ending, but that was absolutely my only non-stellar comment across the entire book. And the last scene, that last page, just left me grinning and wishing next winter would get here. But not too fast - new Dresden's just a bit away.

48Irisheyz77
dec 13, 2008, 10:30 am

I finished this one yesterday and loved it. For once Amara and Isana weren't mega annoying. As Siesser says Isana is no long playing the woe is me card and she's really started to come into her own. Tavi has grown into a strong and capable person and I love him more...though I still don't think that the pic on the cover looks at all like him! There is lots of non-stop action that starts at the beginning and just keeps going. I loved meeting the Icemen and hope to see more of them in the next book. Not at all like I imagined!

Like Siesser I think that the events in Imperia weren't given enough time. So much seemed to be glossed over. I would have liked to see Butcher add another 100 pages or so in order to have really fleshed things out and make it all not seem rushed.

This book really sets up a lot for the next (and final *cries*) book in the series. The Canim....wonder what will happen there? The Vord queen...there has got to be meaning in her appearance. Can't wait to see how it all ends up. Thankfully I'll have another Dresden book in the middle to help whet my appetite.

I just finished Princeps' Fury and all I can say is "Wow!". My mead is spinning with the twists and turns in the story threads. Butcher did seem to leave out some of the stages in the development of these threads but I suppose that the book would have been twice as long. Any work on when the next one is due (she asks while holding her breath)?

Butcher's been fairly consistent - a new Dresden heading into spring, and a newCodex Alera heading into winter. So I'd say the final book's due out November or December. You can handle the wait!!

52CursorsFury
mrt 12, 2009, 1:08 pm

I just finished the book and I loved it. I agree that there was a lot more details that Butcher could have given. It made it stand out a little from the others because of this, along with feeling "light" to me. I don't know if he could have gone into more detail though, without doubling the length of the book (not that I would have been against that). He couldn't just have part of his book more detailed than other parts, it would have made those parts stand out more.

Butcher's website gives the name of the final book.

First Lords Fury

It also says that it's due out in Dec. 2009. I really do like that he has been consistent with his release dates for this series. So many authors you never know when the next one in a series will come out. Waiting is bad enough without adding an unknown publication date to the mix.

Okay I finally got round to reading and finishing this book. I had steadfastly avoided this tread till I did. How FREAKING cool is this book.

I agree that Isana and Amara did not annoy me as much as they had in the other books and I actually started to like Isana. Though both of their attitudes to The First Lord still bugged me. Just seemed so hypocritical.

I know time was of essence but I would have liked Isana to have asked the Icemen why they kept trying to fight or get over the wall. Did the Alerans put the wall up in the middle of their migration route? was the land sacred to the iceman that the Alerans now inhabit? Questions I would love to have had answered but that's just me.

I was a little sad for Rook and due to the revelation at the end wonder if her daughter was safe.

Too many questions not enough answers in this book. Hopefully the last book will wrap everything up nice and neat with a little bow.
