Separate a C and C++ book.

These book should be separated On to C and On to C++ by Patrick Henry Winston

The ++ seems to cause the problem, perhaps.

Someone already separated them before I could get to them -- were you trying from the work page or the author page?

Are you sure? Yes C is not the same as C++, but the one mentioned as C under C++ (http://www.librarything.com/work/300853) shares that ISBN (not the ISBN of the others about C - http://www.librarything.com/work/6250036).

Dropping special characters in a search has absolutely nothing to do with combining or separating.

Did you actually look at the editions page or the author page and see them combined? Or are you assuming that because of the dropped-plus behavior?

(The mishandling of c++ in tags has been a longstanding issue, too.)

I add the C++ library and went to its editions page to add it to the "On to" series. Noticed the page was for the "On to C" and had the "On to C++". Then added this e-mail.

This is a PITA for those of us with books on the computer language known as C++, all mentions of which are being transformed to refer to the computer language C.

Currently the problem seems to be only on the "add books" page, and affects tags as well as titles. (Or at least, I encountered it there, and not on the edit your book page. I haven't looked for it on other pages.)

There is a workaround - edit your book after it's been added with incorrect title and/or tags.

Nonetheless, I'd really appreciate this being fixed.

It appears that some series-related page is or was broken in the same way, resulting in https://www.librarything.com/nseries/14721/C-In-Depth-Series which contains 7 books, 6 or which are obviously about C++ (not C), and the 7th of which mentions no computer language name on its cover.

Looks like it was either a plain error in the original CK-era series name, or the ++ back then requiring escape characters to appear in a series name, I forget how it used to be, but doesn't look like there's any issue using + now.

The works all do look valid to be in the series: the 7th that you mention has the series name and editor at the bottom of the front cover. I found a few more while browsing around and added those too. A few of the works however were missing ++ in their calculated title, I have added these via Canonical Name.

I think that's everything sorted for the specifics of these works/series, and for the general bug of + being dropped from the Add Books, your thread linked in >7 ArlieS: seems to have got some traction.
