Is there some way to extract from the database a list of members in a particular country, city or zip-code area? That done, would it be possible to consolidate the library lists of all the members in that list and export the result to a spreadsheet?
Here's how I would use this information.
I live in Accra, Ghana. I would like to write an article on the subject "What are Ghanaians reading?"
The public library system might be one source of data but if, as I suspect, it has not yet been computerized, extracting the information from cards would be a daunting task.
An alternative approach might be to interrogate Librarything, GoodReads, Shelfari, etc. The results would be of limited statistical validity, but might serve to reveal trends.

You can search for members' locations on the search page. Of course, this will only get you people who have chosen to list their locations on their profiles. For the next step, I'd suggest contacting them rather than mining their information without their knowledge.
