Rachel Caine's Weather Warden Series

Has anyone else read these? I've just finished the first Ill Wind and am starting the second, Heat Stroke. They're unexpectedly good so far.

I read Ill Wind. It was okay, but it didn't leave me with a lasting impression or a desire to read more. That's probably just me, though -- I'm getting burnt out on the preternatural genre, particularly when the number of books in a series tops four or five.

I really loved Ill Wind and have enjoyed the rest of the series so far as well. I haven't had a chance to read Gale Force yet but it is in my tbr pile. David always ranks high as my response to the "whose your favorite hero" question.

I wasn't sure I'd like it at first. I've read Rachel's Morganville Vampires series but was skeptical about how one could possibly write so much about a group of people that have control over the elements such as the weather. And then throwing a few djinn (AKA genies) into the mix! But it was much, much, much better than anticipated.

And, yes, David sounds absolutely yummy!

I've read them all and highly recommend the series. If I remember right, there are a couple slow moments in the 4th and 5th books, but they're still good. She's put forth an interesting creature with the djinn. She has a fully developed and well-planned "magic system". The dialogue and interplay between her characters is generally amusing. Basically she has a unique and well-written voice within the urban fantasy genre that is definitely worth reading.

I liked the first book quite a bit. I agree with #8 about the interesting magic system and djinn, and loved her sense of style. Read them through the fifth book, and probably won't continue. The problem is that the "problems" keep getting bigger and more catastrophic with each book, and so more and more they are just about surviving the current disaster without much in the way of character development or relationships. The dialogue is clever but without much depth any more.

I have read all of the series, except for Gale Force which is sitting on my coffee table waiting to be read. I questions the first and second book myself. From there on out it was great I love the story lines, and David I would take me that Djinn anyday. I recommend them definitely.

I've read them all and enjoyed most of them but there was too much dieing and coming back to life differently and then dieing again and then coming back to life. Not just with one character but with several. Once...okay but over and over? That was dissapointing.

Since my last post I have read Gale Force. I have to say that although I've really enjoyed Joanne and David's stories, I'm ready for a concrete conclusion to the series.

I have read the first two books in the series and really enjoyed them.
