I'm sure that most of us are just a little bit curious about what the others are working on. At least I know I am.

If you're aren't, well this will give you a chance to brag about your great idea this year, lol.

Title: The Bonny Swans (actually I hate that title, so it's just a working on until I have some inspiration)

Genre: Historical/ Fantasy

Summary:
My nano is based on a ballad called the Twa Sisters/Bonny Swans/ The Cruel Sister. Basically, there are three sisters, the eldest and the youngest are in love with the same man so the eldest murders the youngest. The murdered sister's bones and hair are used to fashion an enchanted instrament that sings and points out her murderer.

Something really interesting about your novel:
It's going to be set in Colonial America and told from the Middle Sister's point of view.

Title: When Skies are Gray
Genre: Historical YA
Summary: It's 1944 and like everyone else, Janna Oster is just trying to survive the war. Shortly after coming to Paris her parents were killed and she is now a ward of the Baron. Janna continues acting and also performs in cabarets. This delights her fellow countrymen, who love to hear their favorite German songs. One night Janna is surprised when Sef appears backstage. Something really interesting about your novel: It's a sequel to The Borrowed House by Hilda Van Stockum

Title: The Isles of Alaenya
Genre: Fantasy
Summary: (I'm going to see if I can write this out a little differently than I did on the NaNo site.) Steven Parker, a sarcastic and silly seventeen year old, is trying to win the heart of Allyson Dale - the cute clerk at the local comic book shop. Steven has never been interested in comics, fantasy novels, or role-playing games but he paints himself as an aficionado in an attempt to impress Allyson. She's charmed by Steven and invites him to join her gaming group but her friends see through Steven's act and do not want him to be part of their formerly all girls group. What Steven doesn't know however, is that the game the girls enjoy is an epic fantasy called The Isles of Alaenya and once a quest is started the players are transported into the imaginary realm. Steven is truly a fish out of water in the magical world turned real but he must work together with Allyson and her friends because only by completing their quest can they hope to return home.

Something really interesting about your novel: When I was a teenager my friends and I made a habit of being the only females that frequented comic book shops and read fantasy novels. I wanted to bring that minority aspect into my work and play with some humor surrounding it.

FOUR MORE DAYS!!!! :)

Title: Broken Worlds, Hidden Mirrors
Genre: fantasy
Summary: A young boy gets pulled into a vortex that throws him into an alternate universe, where humans are mythical creatures and unicorns and dragons rule the land. The vortexs are ripping and fadding, causing the worlds to collide, and a young human is the only one who can fix it. He must overcome his fears, take on many strange tasks, and learn to trust in what shouldn't be real.
Something really interesting about your novel: This is the first fantasy I have written since I was 7 years old. I am *not* familiar with this type of writing. It will definitely be a challenge.

Title: Deify the Sword
Genre: Speculative Fiction (Science Ficiton per NaNo.)
Summary: (Have to go to my profile on NaNo to get what I wrote... Bring that back later)

Fascinating Fact: This is based on a personal planet creation that has forsaken guns for swords and bladed weapons.

Title: If I give it a real title that jinxes it. It's "The Psi-Fi Story" for now.
Genre: Speculative fiction
Summary: Every sentient race in the galaxy has some kind of psi powers --except humanity. So when humans start showing up a few at a time, on a dozen colony planets, with psi powers of their own, the stage is set for the Earth Federation to be turned upside-down. And then a single Federation Farscout discovers that maybe all humans were meant to have psi of their own --and maybe he knows how to give it back to them. If he dares. --And if the psi underground can help him get the secret out, against dissension in its own ranks and the fierce opposition of all the Federation governments.

Fun Fact: I dreamed this story. Not one dream; a few times a year I have a dream that's clearly set in this universe that shows me just a bit more of the story. Seems appropriate for a story about extra-sensory powers!

Title: In the Teahouse

Genre: Speculative/Horror

Summary: A young woman watches as her friends commit suicide for unknown reasons, suspicious of a teahouse they had been celebrating in shortly before. She must find out why her friends are dying or face the spontaneous urge of self-destruction herself.

Title: Broken Journey

Genre: Science Fiction

Summary: Felicia Avar left earth as a sleeper, knowing she would awake at some distant future time on a new world which she and her companions would settle. However, when she awakes it's to see a stranger standing over her. There should be no strangers on the ship. She knows something as gone wrong.

A disaster during the journey brought several of the sleepers awake. They lived and died on the ship, but eventually the group has found a world. It has been settled for three generations, and the last of the sleepers have been awakened because the pods were failing.

They've been dropped into a culture they don't understand, the work they were trained for useless since the world is already settled, and facing trouble with an alien race that may have been responsible for the disaster in space.

Something Interesting: I recently completed a nonfiction book on writing science fiction for a publisher in Great Britain. For part of the book, I used the idea of Broken Journey to show how to build a story idea, create a partial outline, write a cover letter and other such things. But I hadn't actually written the book. This looks like a good chance to get it done!

Title: Stacks
Genre: YA, speculative/sci-fi

Summary: 17-year old Iris goes to work at the local library during the summer after her graduation and discovers that it is the center of a resistance movement against an elusive group of people called Listeners, and where information and warnings of a future event are passed along in an interesting, low-tech way.

Can't give much more than that at this point. lol

Title: Sunshine

Genre: Thriller (although with a generous dose of chick-lit)

Summary: Lainie marries the man of her dreams and relocates with him to the Southwest to start their life together, but moving far from friends and family and adjusting to married life is not as easy as she'd thought. As his work keeps him away long into the evenings, Lainie becomes fascinated with news reports of a series of murders of young women.

As I've been writing, the protagonist's voice has changed into a much shallower one. It's fun for me to find out her take on things.

Looks like there's a lot of fun stuff being written this year.

Title: Writing Buddies
Genre: Absurd Humor
Summary: Two friends have gotten along really well most of their lives until they both start writing novels and end up competing against each other instead of supporting each other.
Something "really interesting" about my novel: Here's an excerpt from the first chapter:

“Okay, let me know what you think. I’m all about getting good story notes.” Daryl clears his throat and pulls on his beard a little like you would stroke a cute little kitty cat that’s latched onto your chin with its tiny, precious claws. “Two friends have gotten along really well most of their lives until they both start writing novels and end up competing against each other instead of supporting each other.” Daryl’s head bobbing returns and the irony of his novel’s premise is not lost on the frowning friend, either.

“You’re joking.”
