So I'm an American with a taste for British books and humor. Can anyone suggest a website/service that sells books internationally without gouging us unsuspecting Yanks? I usually use Amazon, but I'm suspicious of their prices, especially with the exchange rate being what it is.

Didn't the pound just drop recently?

Try:

www.bookdespository.co.uk

No shippings charges.

Even with the Aussie dollar fetching a crummy 38 pence I still find the Book Depository is usually cheaper than my local bookstore.

You could also try www.betterworld.com who offer free shipping in the US.

This is an old thread, but if anyone happens by I recommend Alibris books for decent prices and an international presence.

>5 AdrianMorris: It is an old thread but worth updating.

I've been buying from overseas for about 10 years now and I still use the BookDepository.co.uk, when they actually have something in stock. Otherwise, I often see the desired item on the Book Depository's listings in ABE books, where it seems they can charge a bit more (not sure why they have it in one place and not another, but this was a change that happened after Amazon got their fingers into them). Once I get to ABE books though, I might buy from another UK dealer (if you are looking for new books, beware of listings that look as if they are US book dealers, but ship from the UK. I made that mistake once and waited 6 weeks for a book).

Rarely do I order from Amazon.co.uk as their shipping and handling charges are over the top. But, I do buy DVDs occasionally through them though

I used to buy a lot from the Book Depository, but I've found that since they were purchased by Amazon, their prices have gone up and their selection has dwindled. I used to buy from them because they were usually cheaper than Amazon.ca or Indigo.ca, and they had things that I couldn't find from the Canadian sites. But lately I'm not finding that to be true. Maybe I've just bought everything already, and I should just read my TBR pile.
