What are your favorite Urban Fantasy?

Urban Fantasy is a new sub genre for me, and one that I'm really enjoying. My favorites have an element of romance in them without any graphic sex scenes. I started off with the Rachel Morgan series but gave them up because of the Rachel/Ivy relationship. I also enjoyed the Anita Blake books (the first 5 at any rate). I'd love to find another good series along those lines. Any recommendations?

Any Given Doomsday (The Phoenix Chronicles)(* this was awful)
Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, Book 1) (*1/2 too much plot & one unending sex scene)
Sunshine (***1/2 really interesting world, a bit sexy at the end)
Dead Until Dark (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 1)(**1/2)

Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series is pretty good. I really liked Rachel Vincent's Werecat series, but there's a couple graphic scenes in there.

Cal Leandros series by Rob Thurman. later books have more romance. no sex is described.

Nightside series by Simon R. Green. action, but little romance.

Connor Grey series by Mark Del Franco

Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine

Dog Days by John Levitt

I like the Rachel Morgan Books by Kim Harrison. Other authors I enjoy are Anne Rice, Marta Acosta, Georgia Evans. Jim Butcher and Linda Robertson.

The Walker Papers by C.E. Murphy.
Blood Song by Cat Adams.
Rosemary and Rue by Seanan Mcguire.
And on a lighter note, with a little less action, funny, and with more romance and sex,
Succubus on Top by Richelle Mead.

I would 2nd Patricia Briggs - I love her Mercy Thompson series & her Alpha Omega series as well

I really enjoyed Wen Spencer's Tinker and Wolf Who Rules

I also enjoyed Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampire series: Hard Bitten, Friday night bites, Twice Bitten and some girls bite

I like Patricia Briggs, as well - and if you find you like her, Ilona Andrews might be worth trying.

If you want something with less romance, both C.E. Murphy and Laura Ann Gilman have a slightly more gritty feel. In the same vein, Cherie Priest, (whose Civil War-with-zombies books are also fun, but not urban) started a new vampire series with Bloodshot. VinoFonseca already mentioned Wen Spencer, but her Ukiah Oregon series might be worth a try, too.

Charles de Lint is IMHO the foremost writer of Urban Myth on the planet.

Just read your post and thought you might like to give Karen Marie Moning a try: her Fever series in particular has a very urban (in Dublin Ireland) feel, and while there is a fair bit of sexuality, not much graphic sex. The romance is rather unusual, and arcs through the entire series before reaching a satisfying conclusion in that regard (fair warning!). The series is five books, and is complete: Darkfever, Bloodfever, Dreamfever, Faefever, Shadowfever. There is a graphic novel Fever moon and a new spin-off series, starting with Iced, which is good, but best appreciated after reading the original series. You'll see a number of other books out there by her, which are VERY loosely related, but definitely written in a standard paranormal romance style; they were all written pre-Fever series.

I'm not usually into urban fantasy but I also loved the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. The last book (Kingdom of Shadow and Light) was a decent ending (although not wholly satisfying....Could be a new spinoff series on the way though. Shadowfever was an amazing ending to the series though, if it had ended there, I would have considered the ending perfect.
