You may not really approve of how I've got there. There are 100+ opera programmes included, mostly Covent Garden and full of all sorts of interesting stuff as well as cast and synopsis.

I have also got a collection of Penguin Books from the first 1000. There are quite a few unique medical books as well as childrens books from the late 1970s.

Hmmm programmes? I don't know. I mean I have started to cataloging magazines and am getting ready to catalog journals. But programmes, how many other are cataloging programmes?

Well reviewing your library it appears there are other. Opps, the others are you. For example http://www.librarything.com/work/5921774/book/34921794
Oh, I see different dates. I see what you have done. Interesting.... Each one has a really great comments and cover images. You really went to some work here.
To bad about missing Turandot.

I am just not sure. Let's see if anyone comments or dislike this. We are really under rules 22 and 2.2.3 for these programmes. And of course rule 2.2.4 should be remembered.

I am curious why did you decide to put the "review" in the comments and not the review field?

You are on rock solid ground with programmes. I did a little more thinking there are other LT users who use the tag.
Check the tag page at,
http://www.librarything.com/tag/programme

There are even works that are shared by multiple users. consider the case of, Maria Golovin by Gian Carlo Menotti

I might suggest you cataloge your titles with the date like Salzburger Festspiele 2002, Salzburger Festspiele 2003 and Salzburger Festspiele 2006 finally Salzburger Festspiele 2007. It will work a little better in cataloging and you get more ultb. If the later matters to you.

Thanks for your approval!

I have already put the date in, as you suggest, for festival programmes covering several productions. For individual operas, I treated them as different editions of the same work. Thinking about it, however, the content usually varies significantly and, in LT terms, they are different works. I'll have to come back to this ;-)

I wonder if I can include programs from sf conventions? I have about a dozen.

>5 rgurskey: Well, why not? Whatever was the original intention for LT, folk are using it to catalogue all sorts of things that aren't books with ISBNs. Even ISBNs are found on non-books - I've got a pack of playing cards and a map or two.

I would have thought that the important thing was to make sure everybody can see what you are doing. There is a lot of confusion of various media around - see:

http://www.librarything.com/topic/49743

for an example.

I am at present adding 'Royal Opera House' as 'author' to my programmes to stop some inappropriate automatic combining.

In passing, I must 'fess up to attrition at the hands of combiners - down to 466 now ;-)

Currently I have a couple of magazines I am not marking as ultb because no one else has them cataloged. By them I mean the particular magazine. For example I have MAKE: Technology on Your Time Volume 15 (Make: Technology on Your Time) and Craft magazines. I have unique issue and so mark them as ultb. I suspect they will so be combined. However I also have Knotting Matters December 2003 Issue 81. No one else is cataloging this magazine so I'm not marking it ultb at this time.

I plan to catalog a couple of programme to musical and plays I have attend once(if) I find them. I don't have a programme from any conventions but if I kept them on my bookshelf I would catalog them. Look to see if anyone else has convention programs out there. If not encourage people to catalog them!

I look at it more and more like this. If I was Mr Darcy of Pride and Prejudice what would be in my library? What would I catalog want cataloged? So I am rapidly moving toward cataloging framed paintings and sculpture. Now tagging ultb is a different story...

Just remember the guide line WWMDD?

I've added sf convention programs to my catalog—mostly because they are taking up shelf space, but also because they include original short stories and poetry.

Please don't.

That was in November, the pendulum is swinging back the other way.

I have cataloged one or two ballet programmes; they contain significant amounts of interesting reading material.
