OCCULT (most of these should be part of religion, imo)
these are merely the hidden or mystical portions of various religions, some incorporating the entire religion.
Ancient(ish): Astrology, Hermeticism, Gnosticism, Neoplatonism, Sufi, Essenes
Medieval: Kabbalah, Alchemy
Renaissance: Enochian Magic, Rosicrucianism, Masonry
Victorian: Tarot, SanterÃa, Thelma, various magical orders (OTO, AA, GD, etc)
Modern: Anthroposophy, Theosophy, NeoPaganism
I'm not suggesting that these topics be split by time period, as there will always be a disagreement between those who believe and those who do not. As an example, Tarot could be considered to be an Italian card deck that only started to be used for divination in the 1800s. Or, it could be an ancient form passed down from the ancient Egyptians (or Atlantis).
PARANORMAL
these are mostly topics that some people believe and others do not, and is not supported by the scientific community.
Extra-terrestrial: Aliens, UFOs, E.T.-Sasquatch
Super Powers: ESP, Dreams,
Alternate History: Atlantis,
Supernatural: Ghosts, Sasquatch, Loch Ness, other creatures,
These topics mostly deal with what the authors think are misconceptions in the way we view the world. In other words, natural phenomena.
Id's like to echo a comment made on another thread that I don't think these topics should be segregated out in the way that they are. The subjects included in this top level category are only here by common consent, and when the public's opinion about a certain topic changes, the books here dealing with it will have to be moved. Public opinion hardly seems to be a good way to sort books. Otherwise, OSC is bound to end the way DDC has.

"Cryptozoology" would be the category for creatures like Sasquatch and the Loch Ness monster.

What about a subtopic section for Unexplained events and/ or history?

I agree with placing the entire "Occult" subtopic as described by StarofSophia with "Religion". It seems strange to place belief systems such as" Wicca" in with ghosts and aliens, when - by definition - they really are straight-up belief systems.
Since classification systems are supposed to try as hard as they can to adhere to pragmatic reasons for classifying certain topics together, it would be a shame to replicate the same error as DDC and even BISAC, or potentially categorize such works as "Folklore" as in LC.
