Does anyone (besides myself) have any 'twisted old vellum' books or documents?

Personally I only have a few vellum books, one printed by the Plantin press, 1590, with Mediaeval MS strips along the inner hinges. Another one is a 2-in-1 of the Rye House plot Tryals, 1683-84, including the Arraignment, Tryal & Condemnation of Algernon Sidney, bound in dramatically worn, curved 4to vellum that reminds me of an ancient tree in some way.

Besides books, I collect vellum documents (indentures particularly), of the Middle Ages to 17th century. I just picked one up a couple Saturdays ago, an Elizabethan land transfer of an half acre of meadow in Leicestershire, dated February 10th, 1588.

I find vellum to be a fascinating material, nearly always picturesque.

I also have a few vellum bound books. The oldest is a 1857 copy of Catena "In Beatissimvm Iob Absolvtissima ... " (nood need to copy the complete title..it is a bit longer. Somehow my vellum bound books are in a considerable better condition than the leather bound ones.

The "youngest" vellum bound ones are from the middle of the 20th century. I think I've never seen a new book bound in vellum...

Got one early C20th in our collection and one Brock illustrated one in the shop, and a C18th atlas that has lost its maps - trouble with vellum is once it gets grubby there's nothing you can do about it but it looks and feels wonderful when in good condition doesn't it? Like you, much after mid C20th does not seem to come up

I think I've never seen a new book bound in vellum...

Not for the general market, of course, but there are fine binders who work in vellum.

Here's one recent example. And another real beauty.

Not twisted or old, but - 1/4 bound vellum on paper; the centenary edition of The Wind in the Willows, issued in 2008 by the Folio Society, London. A spectacular edition, you should be able to see it here. I say "should be able to" because the Folio Society website has pages that cannot be accessed from certain countries, and some that cannot be accessed by non-members, and which pages can or cannot seems to change frequently. There are times, in fact, where there is no apparent reason for being able to access certain pages and not others. I have decided to find it endearing.

New vellum has a 'hand' that is difficult to describe. Something between leather and paper, I think.
