printing, font, and color questions

What font is used for the tiles of NYRB Classics books? Also, I'm curious about the color of the inside cover of Afloat. It's such a gorgeous orange! Y'all did a fantastic job with graphic design.

What press prints the books?

here goes:

most (not all) of the books are printed at Sheridan press in Michigan—a medium sized printer we've been very happy with. The early books were set in Trump Mediaeval but a few years in we began offsetting (basically photographing earlier editions of books) many of the books and setting the ones we set from scratch in Garamond—which to my mind is classic, attractive, and neutral.

The inside cover of Afloat is PMS (Pantone) 138 U (uncoated stock).

I think this is a good place for me to mention how much I love the look and feel of NYRBs - the thick pages, smooth covers, often surprising inner-cover colors and the great cover design which, even if not a literal picture of what happens, usually nicely captures the tone of the book. I really noticed this when I got an ARC of The Old Man and Me (which I really appreciated and enjoyed!) and found that I actually noticed the difference in paper texture and appearance.

thanks for the kind words. It's true that we use durable, acid-free paper. Amazing that so many "quality publishers" go with the quick-yellowing, woodpulp kind. So many smaller presses stick with the good stuff.

How do you find out who owns the copyright of a book that's been out of print for a long time? Do you ever find the copyright situation so tangled up that you can't publish a book?
