The site is quite slow today and has begun to time-out for some functions (white screen).

We'll be working on the problem soon!

Just did a search of amazon via BM and there are no results, it is just blank, weird! It should not be so as the book is listed. Is this something to do with the slowness? But the page came up fairly quickly . . .

>4 bookel: - same here, but I've only started using it today so asumed I was doing something wrong...

6markwp

Yes, when the site is slow it causes the link to Amazon to not work all the time.

The lookup from Amazon, when adding books, is down for the moment (although entering ISBN directly works, as does bulk add via ISBN list) -- but you can still add via moochbar from Amazon.com.

Edit: when entering a new ISBN (not in the BM database), it will not come up via search, and if you add it from Amazon's side, all you get is a blank entry, so this indicates the BM system is having memory problems, like senior moments :)

Speed is improved for now, but the more serious problem of not being able to add some new books correctly remains for the moment.

John has blogged on this -- expect a fix to take a few days.

Ahhhhh.........this explains my confusion........I shall stop wondering why books couldn't be found!

Is it just my connection or is BM not to be found for now?

Safari can’t open the page “http://www.bookmooch.com/” because the server where this page is located isn’t responding.

Bookmooch is up for me, currently.

It's up for me, but I can't add books to my wishlist or inventory. I'm sure John's working hard, though.

This may have been obvious to everyone else, but just in case (it was driving me crazy that I could not add to inventory a book that I was angeling, until I figured this out- duh!!) If the main (top of page) search box comes up with a book when you enter the ISBN, you can look at the info for that book and then choose "Give Your Copy" or "Wishlist Add". Until this hiccup, I had never paid attention to notice that when adding to inventory, it used the Amazon search.

ETA: in the case of books you are angeling or reposting, you can also go directly to your record of books you've mooched and click Give Copy right from that record.

I tried manually adding a book by ISBN and it said the book was already on amazon (when the search was not working) and added blank details except the ISBN so I had to delete it. I ended up adding manually without the ISBN in that field, since the book is not on BookMooch and I didn't feel like waiting.

I believe the Amazon search being down has resulted in at least one newbie hand-entering all of their books. Of which there are sixty. I feel so, so bad for them.

I am of course writing a hopefully helpful welcome email.

Mark, any idea why it's been so slow so often lately? I don't remember this frequency in the past.

I got what I wanted done, so I'm happy. It was slow except for one random period of very quick speed... odd...

Thanks for the help and updates, Mark!

42markwp

should be okay, John is woprking on the site this week, so there may be some temporary slow spells or restarts.

43skittles
okt 23, 2009, 9:11 am

mark, are there times of day when BM is busier than others? if noon to 3pm ET is the busiest (as an example) then we might expect slower times then.

(although, I've heard that the busiest times for the internet in general are times just after school lets out on the east coast of the US.)

BM is really slow right now.

Is BM slow for anyone else?

For me, the last few days have been torture...the pages are soooooo slow to load, it may speed up (for a minute), but then it goes back to loading, loading, loading.... often timing out.

Anyone else having trouble?

add: Oh wait, oh no - I think it has just gone down! :(
I broke it with my complaining! *wails*

49Lman
Bewerkt: jan 9, 2010, 7:20 pm

It's back maybe - but slow..
I just got a page to load.

I hate it when it happens while adding - that takes enough time as it is!

50Macophile

It seems to be working really well at the moment... *waits with fingers crossed and baited breath*

51Heather19

I chose tonight as the night I was going to finally get up-to-date with putting my BM-wishlisted books into my LT-wishlist. It's been hard going for the past two hours because BM has been taking up to 20 seconds to load a single book's page.

52Lman
jan 10, 2010, 12:05 am

Right at this moment - nobody move; or breathe for that matter - it is OK speed-wise for me.
I don't think it will last. :(

Bookmooch as been quite slow for the last three days, mainly during peak times, we hope to fix it soon!
