I invite all and sundry to join me for a group read of The Chronicles of Prydain, a five-book children's fantasy series loosely based on Welsh mythology. The books are The Book of Three, The Black Cauldron, The Castle of Llyr, Taran Wanderer, and The High King, and are my very favorite children's fantasy series. I love how events throughout the five books are all woven together in inevitable but unforseen fashion. The second book was a Newbury Honor Book and the 5th won the Newbury Medal, but you will be unable to appreciate it without the first four. The schedule will start in January, on January 10 for the first book, and proceed at the rate of one per month through May 10. I look forward to sharing this with those of you who choose to join me.

I am in, Roni, if I can get copies of the set. I read them a long time ago and I am sure that a re-read is past due!

You are FAST, Stasia. I was still posting the link in the Over Sea, Under Stone group.

I have checked all the titles and they are all available at my local library, so unless someone has one checked out, I should not have any problems get my hands on them.

I should have mentioned earlier - Stasia and I will probably be setting up the 2010 Challenge group this weekend and we'll make this the first "official" group read thread! I know several others have been proposed - we'll try to get 'em all in.

Ooh... I don't have copies of these, but they're fantastic, I'd love to re-read them... I'll see if I can find copies (or maybe get them for Christmas?) and join in!

I'm going to purchase my set today and hopefully they'll get here soon so I can start reading!
It seems there is another book, The Foundling and Other Tales of Prydain. Will we be reading that one as well or just the first five?

Good question, Rebecca. That is a book of short stories that are mostly backstories about some of the side characters we meet in the series. If, after we read the five, people are interested in reading this as well, we certainly can.

> 7 Thanks, Jim. I was going to post you separately to let you know about this, and got busy last night, so I'm glad you are right on top of it!!! Means I don't have to be.

Count me in. I'll find the books by hook or by crook.
Sigh. Why do I do this to myself? Probably because I like it!

after reading them a year ago from the library, I found them all second hand and added them to my own library, so I am ready to re-read!

I'm in. I've read them (they are one of my favorite series of books), but I can always read them again.
