This photograph was taken in early 1941, in California.
Can anyone identify who it is?
Thanks.

Not very clear, but it looks vaguely like Nabokov.

Thank you.
I hope to post a much better image soon... by Monday.
Yes, he is similar to Nabokov.

Nabokov was lecturing at Stanford that year...

The fey pose and jaunty white hat suggest Somerset Maugham, but I don't think it is. If it's LA, it's probably some wonderful author forced to do that odious screenplay work.

I hope the frame doesn't fall, or the Remington is history.

Definitely not Nabokov.

Yes, he is rather Maugham-ish. I also thought that. But, we are pretty certain it is not him, either.
Unfortunately, the stamp on the back of the photo does not list a city. But, LA seems likely to us!
Nabokov @ Stanford that year? Wonderful info. I will share this with the patron. Thanks.

A better photo would definitely held. He looks rather familiar. Could you ask him to put the hat on?

Blaise Cendrars also went through my mind. I understand he did film work, but not exactly sure if he was in CA at this specific time. I'd also need to get a better look at his nose. Blaise had quite a honker.
