Plans for a revolving bookcase please.

Any bright sparks know of a good set of plans for a revolving bookcase. I don't want to dismantle my father's (and my heirloom) to decipher the internal gubbins just yet.

I'm also bewildered why it is that this piece of furnture is so uncommon, any ideas?

I've seen many revolving bookcases. Is yours a table top model or a floor model?

Revolving? As in a 4-sided thing that spins on a central, vertical axle? Doesn't that take up a lot of space? Or is this some sort of conveyor-belt type thing that hides one set of shelves behind the other?

Or, the kind that looks like a bookcase on one side, and the wall of the Batcave on the other. That's the kind I'd like! :D

I built one of those then couldn't get the Shakespeare's flip-top-head bust switch to work!

I saw a gorgeous one once that was circular, not square, with four shelves, each a little smaller than the next lower one. They were placed on a drum table with drawers, and a central leg with three feet. It dated from the early 19th century.

A bit small, but you could probably adjust it.

I once saw a tv-show that involved a revolving bookcase.
It was basically a square bookcase around a floor-to-ceiling pole placed on 2 shelves with a circular groove in it and a lot of marbles. Once filled, it was remarkably stable.

Didn't quite know where to post this. I purchased a revolving bookcase at a used bookstore yesterday. It was scratched up - rubbed some Old English scratch repair and now it looks great. Can't wait to fill it with books. Check out my pics here:

I used to get these guys' catalog. I would order one of these in a heartbeat, if my budget allowed. It's modular so you can customize it. Check out the magnifying paperweight. *Sigh*
