Books with Gravestone Art

I thought I would mention one of my favorite books on gravestone 'art' and hope my fellow fans will post theirs.

That's a terrific book. I own it but haven't gotten around to listing it yet. I'd really like to visit Highgate. I noted that Malcolm McLaren is to be buried there. I can't wait to see what his marker looks like. Judging by his funeral procession, it will be interesting.

I just stumbled onto this group. I've been reading Stories in Stone - one of those impulse purchases from the clearance bin at Barnes and Noble. It provides some wonderful descriptions of the meanings behind various funerary symbols and tombstone carvings with full color photographs of virtually every example he describes.

Ironically, I just finished reading Stonecutter by Leander Watts - a novel - but it's about an apprentice stonemason with an artistic gift for tombstone carving, particularly angels. The story could have been better, but reading it alongside a book including pictures brought it to a whole new level.
