Am I the only one who's pissed about this? In his infinite wisdom, Jerry Sanders has yet again cut the library hours for the City. Starting Saturday March 20, the main downtown library will be closed on Saturdays. Outrageous. All branch libraries will be closed on Monday. Only the downtown library will be open on Monday.

This makes me sick. Every time Sanders wants to cut back, "Library" is the first word out of his mouth, and I don't mean in a good way.

Pathetic.

As an active user of both Mira Mesa and Rancho Bernardo branches, I am also "tee'd off".

MM is not a rich community, and this library is heavily used! So when they close on Mondays, that will mean a number of MM high school and middle school kids will no longer have a place after school to study, use the internet, and there are also those classes for ESL and Citizenship taking place at MM library that may have to be rescheduled. It's not just a library, but also an active community center!!

RB seniors use their library not only for the huge large print books collection, but also as a meeting place for various clubs and organizations for older people during the day.

What is our mayor thinking?? Why doesn't he just cut back on the pension plans for the City Council and other elected city officials. he could save a bundle right there!!

Yes, cut back on those pensions; I was thinking that, too! It seems those are what's running the budget into the ground!

You're right: libraries are MORE than book repositories. They are also community centers used by all ages. Clearly, Sanders is a moron who doesn't read. As if there are morons who DO read. Ugh, either way, I am pissed!

Let me know if you hear about any kind of public hearing on this, I'd like to attend and get my other S.D. bibliophiles involved too.

I have been looking at the plans for the new central library for far too long... It looks lovely, people...now, if only I can see it built!

Well, it's a done deal. They cut back the library hours and our library will be closed on Mondays starting mid March, I saw it posted at my local Mira Mesa Branch. ... it is sooooo unfair.
