David Grann The Devil and Sherlock Holmes arrived yesterday. Doubleday ARC

Yesterday An Alter in the World showed up via MiB. The book came in a burlap (?) bag and had a slip cover on it. The slip cover was so tight I had to cut the glue to get the book out!!

The note said it was a finished copy given to SA readers. I don't have records of actively requesting this book, so it was probably from a contest.

Beautiful LOOKING book. I can't wait to see if the inside is as good. :)

Yeah..interesting way of packaging the book. I just got it via ups. Where in the note does it state a finished copy or even SA? I think I got a different note. LOL. Mine says something like dear friend, I hope you take the time to dip in. I am still trying to get the book out so...

I got Birthmarked and it's very good. A dystopian YA. Also, I got offered a copy of Truancy which is coming out in paperback. It's another dystopian. But in this case, written by a 15-yo! I'm enjoying it as well.

mrt 9, 2010, 9:51 am

I got Linger.

mrt 11, 2010, 9:59 am

Wow- I'll have to look up both Birthmarked and Truancy. I love a good dystopic book!

Yesterday I received a finished copy of Forest Gate in the mail. I don't have records of requesting it, which means it was probably a contest give-away... Though, I do remember the book from a SA ad. I haven't read anything "brutal and shockingly violent" lately, so this should be in interesting read.

mrt 11, 2010, 12:21 pm

#6, I'm pretty sure it was from SA. Strangely I got two of Forest Gate, so one of them is going to be used as a giveaway on my blog.

Sometimes 'brutal and shockingly violent' gets pushed to the bottom of my TBR piles....some days I need a little something milder!

(my blog is on my profile if anyone wants to enter giveaway)

Today An Unfinished Score arrived in my mailbox. It was my LT ER book from last month- super quick delivery!

I received An Unfinished Score today in my mailbox. I also won it through Early Reviewers.

12GondorGirl
mrt 15, 2010, 7:35 pm

In the middle of dinner tonight the MiB showed up with a copy of The Swimming Pool by Holly Lecraw.

This must have been a contest book, as I don't have record of actively requesting it.

I think I'm going to have to start keeping track of which contest/drawings I enter, just so I know exactly where these books are coming from.

13DevourerOfBooks
mrt 15, 2010, 7:38 pm

Today I got my February LTER book, Pearl of China, as well as Kristy Kiernan's new book Between Friends

mrt 15, 2010, 8:04 pm

I got Forest Gate by Peter Akinti from Shelf Awareness as an ARC, though it's published. Extremely worthwhile read IMO. The brutality is of the Kite Runner kind, but so well done and necessary to understanding.

This reminds me of reading The Invisible Man by Ellison for its insight into a highly self-aware pair of young back men struggling in poverty in London slums.

I would never have picked this up if not for its availability as an ARC, and I would have been less for missing it.

The Queen of Palmyra came yesterday.

#12 - I too got a copy of The Swimming Poo with no idea where it came from. And I actually try to keep a spreadsheet of requests and contest wins....it's no where on there. It looks interesting, but it may not get an immediate review because it will have to go into the queue behine 12 others.

I also got Happy Hour today, and Man from Saigon my ER book, last week.

mrt 16, 2010, 4:36 pm

I received The Tale of Halcyon Crane: A Novel by Wendy Webb, my first LTR book this year!

A Soft Place to Land bu Susan Rebecca White arrived this evening via MiB. Paperback ARC edition. This one was from a SA ad and looks really good. I'm in the mood for something a little lighter, so this may just up Mt. TBR.

Both of the books I got today are finished copies, but neither comes out until April:
Love in a Time of Homeschooling by Laura Brodie
Claude and Camille by Stephanie Cowell

The Map of True Places showed up in my mailbox today. It's going to be difficult not to move it straight to the top of Mt. TBR.

Unfortunately, LT isn't letting me add any new books right now. Hopefully the system fixes itself soon, as I'm really close to hitting 1,900 books in my personal library. I think I'll throw myself a party at 2k. =)

Fever Crumb by Philip Reeve came today from Scholastic via Goodreads.

mrt 24, 2010, 1:07 pm

I received The Map of True Places by Brunonia Barry yesterday. It looks good. If I didn't have three books going I'd jump right on it. It will have to wait about a week.

Split was very good. Not what I usually would pick up, but I couldn't put it down once I started.

Loved Once in a Blue Moon by Leanna Ellis. What a comfortable, comforting book about a middle age woman searching for answers but finds love and faith. Good read.

I requested a arc for a soft place to land on shelf awarness, its seems lately, i request a galley when i see their ads offering and i never get it! I recieve the newsletter around 7:55am, by the time i check my mail its around 9:30, so that too late? I would have thoguht that was early enough. maybe its just me?

I only received my goodreads win, an arc, book is -hearts on a string.

Received my first LT Early Reviewer book today, the Dogs of Rome by Conor Fitzgerald; looking forward to giving it a read and review.

35momgee
mrt 26, 2010, 7:59 am

#33 a lot of SA now you have to enter to "win" a galley. It's not like it used to be where it was as long as supplies last.

In the last few weeks though I have been lucky getting these

The Map of True Places by Brunonia Barry
The Swimming Pool by Holly Lecraw
I'll Mature When I'm Dead by Dave Barry
Claude and Camille by Stephanie Cowell

36DevourerOfBooks

I got a finished copy of Jane's Fame by Claire Harman today.

37PamFamilyLibrary
mrt 26, 2010, 9:21 pm

#35

I know it's probably just me, Momgee, but when I 'win' a galley I don't feel any obligation to review it.

Before I always felt that I owed a review... unless of course I absolutely despised the book.

Received a copy of Barry Eisler's Inside Out. The finished copy isn't out until June, so I've got some time to get to this one. I'm hoping it will be a return to form for Eisler as I didn't think his last book was his best work.

Kathi Appelt's "Keeper" and Justin Cronin's The Passage just arrived in the DC area.

42GondorGirl
mrt 29, 2010, 6:39 pm

Busy day for me today.

The Passage showed up on my porch. This one I requested from SA back in November! It's mammoth, so I hope it's good so that I'm motivated to plow through it.

In the mailbox was Keeper (no idea where that one came from) and The Marrowbone Marble Company (which was a SA request, like, last week!).

43tututhefirst

The Lotus Eaters - requested from SA about a month ago showed up today. pumps arm in air and yells "YES"

I got Keeper yesterday..and the only insert was a card from Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing...but the book/story looks good.....and the cover is rather lovely, too.

Old City Hall came yesterday. It is by Robert Rotenberg. It actually got to me pretty fast. I have already started it and I am pleased so far.

This is my first time participating in the LTER. I am glad I joined LT!
