There was a great review of a YA (middle-school) oriented anthology on NPR this week. It was called Poetry Speaks Who I Am and comes with an accompanying CD.

a few v. good ones from the 90s: This same sky - poems from everywhere BUT the US; What have you lost? and I feel a little jumpy around you alos ed. by Naomi Nye. Going over to your place ed. by Paul Janeczko is v. good too. Poetspeak which has the poet's providing a short discussion of the included poems is excellent too.

Anything by Naomi Shihab Nye is fantastic. Much of Mary Oliver would be accessible to teens I think even though she isn't YA. I haven't read her book, but Margarita Engle has one out. Verse novels are all the rage now. Billy Collins is another accessible poet not specifically for teens. He also complied Poetry 180: A Turning Back to Poetry which is an anthology geared at teens. How recent is recent? Is this all too old?
