Since I've nearly finished my original challenge http://www.librarything.com/topic/72358#1477413 and I'm reading books outside of it already, I thought I'd start another category challenge to see me to the end of the year.

This one will be a smaller one with each numbered category having that number of books in it. Some of the categories are the same as in my previous challenge, but most are new.

Mini reviews of the books I've read can be found on my 75 challenge thread number 2 http://www.librarything.com/topic/93273

I've re-jigged my categories a bit since I started this and I think I stand a good chance of finishing this mini challenge now with a couple of overlaps. I've recently joined a book club so have 4 books for that which will take me to the end of the year. I have swapped Non-Fiction and Orange Longlist mainly because I need to read a few history of photography type books for a course I'm doing so will incorporate those into the challenge

Completed one category Woman Authors which is the largest category. Not at all sure I'll complete this by the end of the year, even allowing for some overlaps, but I'll keep on with it.

Two categories completed, although with one overlap between them: Booker Prize Longlist 2010 and Book Club Reads.

Of the Booker Prize books, I loved Room, was pretty indifferent to C and disliked The Slap and couldn't understand how it made even the longlist. However, it produce one of the better book club discussions as it polarised opinions and contained plenty of "issues".

The other Book Club choices, I haven't particularly enjoyed either, although came to appreciate them more after the discussions and was pleased to read things I wouldn't normally. We haven't had the meeting yet for the the final one this year The Screwtape Letters and I'm slightly apprehensive about this since it is about religion.

More categories completed, and I think I should finish the challenge, with a few overlaps by the end of the year.

Crime - I ended up reading two Sophie Hannah thrillers here. Not life changing literature, but good reads.

Telegraph UK 20 under 40 - I was already a fan of Scarlett Thomas and Dan Rhodes, wasn't that impressed by Patrick Neate, but loved the Paul Murray book/

New Yorker 20 under 40 - on the whole, this has been a great category. The 3 short story collections restored my interest this form and The History of Love was a truly beautiful brilliant novel.

Favourite Authors - all pretty good, but the standouts were Northline and Brooklyn Follies.

Books by Women - my favourites were Mr Chartwell, The Guernsey Literary Potato Pie Society and The News Where You Are . I'll definitely read more by Catherine O'Flynn and Rebecca Hunt, when they write more.
