Margad, thanks also for the invitation. This is such a good idea for a group! I have read the previous posts with great enjoyment. I hope I can post something soon,

Guess I should say hi since I'm new here as well. Seems like this will be a very interesting group to be a part of.

Thank you for inviting me Margad - now you have me thinking why did my style of reading change so much? I find that I very often go through 'phases' i.e. bodice rippers to concentration camp survivors!!! now fantasy to crime - I will look at my books and find two to compare

Thanks for inviting me. I'm still trying to catalog all my books. I've reviewed several of my favorite reads in a journal, which I will try to post as soon as I have more books entered. I like the idea of comparison reviews.

With over 1500 books cataloged already, you must have a fabulous libraray, LeHack! I see we both have Carolyn Parkhurst's The Dogs of Babel. That was a fascinating and moving novel, well worth a comparison review, though the right comparison doesn't immediately spring to mind. I've had amazing insights, though, from just picking two books at random.

I'm looking forward to reading whatever you feel inspired to post!

I will probably read more than post, but I am happy to be here!

This promises to be an interesting Group. I have an idea for a contribution, but an intelligent post on the subject will require a re-read of something I haven't visited in a few years. A project! I love it.

Welcome to Books Compared, laytonwoman3rd. I can't wait to read your contribution!

I have a bunch of ideas for new comparisons myself, after reading a good selection of books (inspired by various Books Compared contributors) during my 2-month research trip in Texas. I just have to unearth myself from all the work that piled up during my absence and make more time for reflection.

Margad, thank you for inviting me to the group. I'm not sure if I'll post much...it's been hard finding the time just to read lately! This will be a fun one to watch, though.

Welcome, 2below. Some of our members post often, some never, some drop in and out. But I hope you'll find time to share a few thoughts from time to time, and maybe a comparison one day! Short or long, all are welcome food for thought.

This group sounds like so much fun. I just read the Wuthering Heights/Jane Eyre comparisons and got a kick out of all the posts. Might stimulate me to re-read both books, but then, I'd really like to find some other books to compare. I am delighted to be in such good company.

Welcome, Maggie! The most fun is writing a comparison review. The second most fun is reading everyone else's comparisons. I'm always surprised by the unexpected ideas that come up.

Hello! This group seems fascinating. When I joined LT a month ago, I started "watching" a bunch of groups and am now starting to join the ones that interest me and stop watching the ones that don't. This one is definitely of interest! At present, I have a heavy reading load for school, so my outside reading (and free time!) is less than I'd like it to be. However, I'll try to contribute!

My question: how does this work? Just...pick any two books and compare anything about them that seems comparable to you? And do people mind rather obvious picks? For example, we just read Nice Work and On Beauty, both of which are based on Howards End by E.M. Forster. Since they're based on the same book, there are obviously similarities. However, I think it's interesting which aspects each author chooses to emphasize and how each twists the original story. Does that count?

erelsi183--I would be interested in reading how Nice Work and On Beauty compare. It is telling what choices the author makes about what to include. Also, how an author incorporates the ideas into the storyline and writing styles is interesting. I haven't read the two books that you mentioned. Were they written at different times? For different audiences? Were they received differently?

So, in short, it certainly would count. Just pick two books and compare.

Oops, so this is where i should have come first! Thanks for the invite, margad, i hope i did not mess up the talk wherever i popped in! (the eyes of god and mishima). Today is an exciting day for me, proofs for my first twin book came and i just approved them and need to go out and find people interested in dirty senryu! I do not know if anyone will ever find anything to compare it/them to, unless it is clean senryu!

Or dirty something-else, keigu. Congratulations, and welcome to Books Compared! No need to post here first, though it's always nice to learn a little more about a new group member.

I agree with christiguc. A comparison of Nice Work and On Beauty would be very welcome. I haven't read either, so you will expand my reading horizons. And sometimes comparisons of rather obvious pairs can result in surprising and unique insights. Anyway, these two books would not have been obvious to me, since I didn't know they were both based on Howard's End. Do share your thoughts, erelsi, I'm eager to read your comparison.
