I've recently acquired a copy of the Ohio Agricultural Report, dated 1877. It's in poor condition, with the first 6 pages torn out.

I don't think I'll sell the book. I actually might donate it to the Agricultural Museum in Ohio.

...but I would like to get a good idea about how much the book might sell on ebay. Any ideas?

There is a similar one on ebay right now you could watch it and see what it goes for. If you search every few weeks you may find several and it may give you an idea.

Many books are old but not particularly valuable especially when damaged. I have an old yearbook of trees that has lovely end papers but I got it at a library sale for a dollar or two. Their real value is to researchers or historians or those who just love obscure books. It sounds like the museum might be a lovely place for it.

Marensr is right... it's a rare book but apparently not a valuable one. Notice that the eBay listing is not an auction but a buy-it-now, and so far nobody wants it for $12.99. Books with missing pages are generally not wanted except (Marensr is right again) by researchers.

I found a diary written by a Canadian WWI draftee at a yard sale for 25c. Intrinsic value? Incalculable. Monetary value? Debatable, especially as the fellow never saw action, the Armistice was signed while his cohort was en route to England. The museum in his home town was over the moon when I donated it. I was equally delighted when I saw it on display!

Thanks for the information. Yeah, I'm going to donate it to the museum. I already called them up and they seemed happy about it. The book belongs where it will be most appreciated anyways. :)

As a museum director, I have to say thanks! Even though I'm in Montana, and not affiliated in any way with the museum you mentioned, too many people don't understand museums rely on DONATED materials. I've even worked in huge museums with huge budgets, but there was $0 for acquisitions.
