*** LARGE PRINT EDITION *** The FIRST Wilde's book. Go back to where it all began... Jon Beatty thought he'd found the best man for him until Craig walked out. To add insult to injury, Craig's got a new lover-a woman-and wants Jon to be a different kind of best man...at his wedding. Reasoning that the only way to get over one man is to get under another, Jon heads out to Wilde's, the night club on Capitol Hill famous for its hot clientele and hotter bartenders. Jon just wants to get drunk and get laid, and bartender Liam Sable is more than willing to help with both. Their one night stand turns into a rebound fling, but as Jon moves on with Liam, Craig starts having second thoughts about the break-up. His tiresome antics are the least of Jon and Liam's worries, though. The least annoying, and the least dangerous... NOTE: This book was previously published.… (meer)

This must be an older work. I've read The Distance Between Us, the second in this series, and it is undeniably better written. Not that this one's terrible - I did finish it. But it fails in the ways most early novels do. There's telling rather than showing a character's feelings, and dialog sometimes good, but too often stilted and repetitive. Worst, a manipulative rather than character-driven plot. Both men fail identically at communicating, not because of who they are, but because it was the only way to make the plot work. Jon never pushes for more, Liam never pushes for more. The bad guys are little more than caricatures. And it's sad because the message is important; domestic abuse happens to men, too, and they get even less support than women do.

This could've been a much more powerful story. ( )

It took about half the book for the story to get started and then it moved SO fast. Kinda like these 2 who had so much sex I wondered how they had time to eat or breathe.

Oh and since when do emergency rooms have doors for each bed? They just have curtains and you can't knock. That part made no sense. ( )

I don't mind erotica every now an then, but it's not my favorite genre. What I didn't know this one is full of sex. Over and over and over. You have some annoying second characters. A "mystery" that is laughable at best (I kept wishing i'm wrong).

I finished the book because I was listening, but I found myself fast forwarding the sex scenes after a while.

I read the second book years ago before this one was even released. Can't even remember if I liked it or not. ( )

I enjoyed this one. The hook up is hot. The men are sweet. There's also a tad of drama and suspense. I'm glad I took the time. ( )

All in all I enjoyed this novel--I liked the main characters and how they learned more about each other as I did. I agree with some of the comments that there was a lot of sex in it, but I don't think it was purposeless in that it clarified the differences in their past relationships with how one that really worked could be--one with compromise, sharing, and genuine care about the other.

The other characters didn't have as much depth, possibly because they didn't really need to. They were there to augment Liam and Jon. To show, possibly, at least in Craig's case, that not only do we change as people once someone has left us (hopefully), but that the person we once worshipped as an ideal may be anything but once seen from a new perspective.
