This compendium of five issues of Tellos includes the Prologue and Prelude, as well as some preliminary illustrations. A man-tiger, a young boy, a female pirate captain, and a thieving fox are unwittingly drawn into the war of Good vs. Evil, trying to keep a magical amulet out of the hands of a turtle-mage and his evil forces. The protagonists fight against frog-soldiers and magical ninjas, as well as more traditional foes, on their quest to safety. The brightly-colored, somewhat busy, illustrations match the tone and pace of this high fantasy graphic novel, keeping the reader interested. The action of the story is obvious throughout the panels, and the characters are drawn in a traditional comic style - the male heroes are fit and muscular, the female hero small-waisted and voluptuous. This book ends with a cliff-hanger, leaving the reader ready for more. This is an engaging story in a format more accessible for reluctant readers, which comprise a significant portion of today's teens. Recommended purchase. Ages 13+. ( )

the nine year old me loved it

In the event you feel like spending a bit of time as an adventuresome 8-11 year old, then this is just the ticket. Reluctant Heroes compiles Tellos #1-5, Prelude, Prologue, some intros, and pencil character sketches. The art is a bit too overproduced, and busy for my adult preferences, but I got in my WayBack Machine, and the nine year old me loved it. ( )
