The second enthralling installment in Alex Rutherford's Empire of the Moghul series. 1530, Agra, Northern India. Humayun, the newly-crowned second Moghul Emperor, is a fortunate man. His father, Babur, has bequeathed him wealth, glory and an empire which stretches a thousand miles south from the Khyber pass; he must now build on his legacy, and make the Moghuls worthy of their forebear, Tamburlaine. But, unbeknown to him, Humayun is already in grave danger. His half-brothers are plotting against him; they doubt that he has the strength, the will, the brutality needed to command the Moghul armies and lead them to still-greater glories. Perhaps they are right. Soon Humayun will be locked in a terrible battle: not only for his crown, not only for his life, but for the existence of the very empire itself.… (meer)

Excellent book based on the 2nd emperor of moghuls Humayun. Author has been truthful about all the events in the book from the death of khanzada Humayun's sister and Hindal Humayun's half brother. He has truthfully given after notes about their death mentioned in book is fictional. This book describes about the life of Humayun and author has described properly with proper details and research... overall a GOODREAD.... 😊 ( )

Interesting read for the historical background, however I don't like his writing style. ( )

Continuing the story of the Moghul Empire by taking up the story of Humayun. Once again all the political intrigue and scenes of action are based on the testimony of those who witnessed the events. The book rattles along at a good pace and is excellent if you fancy learning something about this dynasty without if feeling like learning. The writing isn't outstanding but more than adequate and the book is very much in the style of Conn Iggulden but perhaps not quite as good. ( )
