This is an awesome picture book that I found in the fairy tale/folk tale section. It is easy to read at bed time to my 6 year old and 4 year old. It would also be easy to read for a story time for older children, say in the 2nd-4th grade. As a child, I loved Robin Hood and King Arthur stories. Definitely a book for a reluctant boy reader over the age of 6. ( )

This fairy tale is as old as the Sherwood Forest itself. Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men have once again claimed victory over the evil sheriff of Nottingham. Unable to capture Robin Hood or any of his men, the sheriff devised a plan that would ensnare Hood and his men. There was to be an archery contest with an arrow made of pure gold to be given to the winner. Friar Tuck no doubt knew that it was a trick. But how could they win the contest and still not get caught? Robin and the others donned themselves with colors other than green, disguised how they looked, and entered from all different directions. Surely they would not be noticed. After the contest was won by the "stranger", and he was presented with the golden arrow, he was asked by the sheriff to join his army. He refused. Robin still needed the sheriff to know that he was the stranger who had won the golden arrow. With a poem tied to the arrow, Robin shot it to land right at the King's table. After reading the poem, the sheriff only found out what Robin Hood had been knowing all along. Good always prevails. ( )

Robin and his friends are the heroes of the town but the sheriff thinks otherwise and wants to capture them. He plans of having an archery contest this way he will find robin and his friends by their green outfits. They came disguised and won and they were the winners of the day. I really like how the illustrator makes use of both pages to make one whole scene. It makes the reader really feel like they are part of that scene. The illustrator also really defined lines or outlines with his art making the drawings seem really soft and dreamy and this really makes the reader feel like they are a part of this fantasy story. Much like other E. B Lewis stories this has a realistic theme to it. ( )

The Sheriff of Nottingham puts on an archery contest to trap Robin Hood and his merry men. Well, Robin Hood and his men get into disguises and go win the Golden Arrow. ( )

The artistic detail of the pictures will make this book a delight to read to younger students. In addition, the tales of Robin Hood and his Merry Men will entertain students with their adventures and good deeds.
