Way too much setup to the main story (roughly 50% of the book) before anything even remotely interesting starts to happen, and the ancient-secret-society-who-will-stop-at-nothing-to-silence-their-enemies ultimately fails to illicit any real sense of intrigue or emotional investment in the reader.
