I like this book for many reasons. I liked the simplicity of this book, and the fact that is was very concise. Each page is filled with no more than three sentences, and all of the sentences are less than five words. For example, “What to see first? The hat shop.” This is a great book for students who are just learning to read. I cannot find a better way to put this, but I think this book is cute. For example, “Brownie has her handbag. Pearl has her mouse. They look very smart.” The entire book made me smile, and the pictures helped. On the same page as the quote above, you see Brownie with her little handbag, and Pearl has the mouse in her mouth, walking down the street. The colors used throughout this book are also very pleasing, and appropriate for the mood of the story. I think the central message of this book is that there is no place like home. Brownie and Pearl go on all of these fun sights, but are very happy to finally get home and nap. ( )

In my opinion, “Brownie and Pearl See the Sights” is a very engaging and entertaining book for young readers. The illustrations are so bright and the characters are bolded on every page! These types of illustrations really enhance the story, and keep the reader interested as the plot progresses. There is also humor to these illustrations, with a Brownie carrying her purse and Pearl carrying a mouse. The book is very engaging book for young readers because they explore their neighborhood and visit different stores. Young children can relate to these daily tasks. The language is very simple for beginning readers. For example, “Brownie has her handbag. Pearl has her mouse. They look very smart.” The author also chose to place each sentence on a different line, which organizes the writing better for young students. The plot would also interest a young reader because it is about kittens, children, food, and home life. The big idea of this book is to teach children about going on adventures with friends, but enjoying home too! “Sights are good, but home is better!” ( )

Large text and illustrations introduce the reader to the wonders of the neighborhood in winter through the eyes of a little girl and her cat,

"What to see first?
The hat shop.
Brownie loves hats.
Pearl does too.
What next?"

Delightfully simple. ( )
