Playful story with fun background details in the illustrations. In this book, a little boy, the son of a barber leaves his house around midnight on the night of a full moon. He goes to his dad's barber shop because he has much work to do, cutting the monsters hair of course. It is a funny story that children love, this book also opens the children's mind for multiple questions. Illustrations are great and tons of Halloween activities teachers could do with this. Even Monsters Need Haircuts by Matthew McElligot is about a barber's son taking the family trade to heart. Everyone needs a haircut eventually and this boy sees that anyone who wants it, gets it. On the night of the full moon the boy stays up past his bed time to provide haircuts for all the local monsters. It's a cute book for kids who like monsters or might be facing their first haircut at a barbers. Summary: A story of a young boy, the son of a barber, who works the midnight shift cutting hair of all the resident monsters. He does this without anyone knowing except the monsters. At one point he thinks he has been caught when a gentleman knocks on the front door of the shop but once he gets in the door and in to the chair, he removes he head and everyone realizes he is also a monster. Personal Reaction: This was a fun imaginative story that little boys will love. They love all things monster and the play on words used in the book such as moon powder, tangling comb, and shamp-eeeewwww will be fun for the students to pick up on. Classroom Extension: 1. This would be a fun book to read in the month of October when all things gross and goblin seem to fill the store shelves. It would take a little bit of the scary out of the whole monster thing for students. 2. A fun activity might be to grow Bermuda grass in egg shells and let students "cut" their "monster's" hair or color it (paint) or style it with hair bows. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
