I would use this book at these grade levels because of the difficutly level of the text. I would use this book as a supplement to the text book or as a resource for a project. I think students would enjoy reading a section of the book in addition to their text book because it uses a images and presents the information in a more engaging way than a textbook does. Every page is filled with information, perhaps too much information. The pages have a tendency to be a bit busy, with almost all available space on a page filled with either text (some of which is in very small font) or photographs. While the information is good and includes useful facts and information about influential people in the field such as Warder Clyde Allee and Charles Elton known as the father of ecology, the text is bland. The book is definitely meant for an older elementary classroom. The book could be used as a resource for a classroom when learning about the natural sciences. This is an interesting book all about ecology. It is broken up into two page spreads of subtopics of ecology, for example, "what is ecology," and "food webs". Each two page spread has color photographs attached to a blurb about something under that subtopic. The entire book is done this way. It is an interesting format. It has a table of contents and an index. I particularly enjoyed the photo of the Gray Long-Eared Bat because he has truly great ears and seems to be smiling.
