Summary: This is a story is based on the famous Johnny Appleseed. This man spread apple seeds all over the U.S. and also made a positive impact on others by doing generous things for others.

Personal Reflection: This book will remind you how rewarding helping others can be. This book will make students feel inspired to go out and try and make a difference.

Classroom Extension: Have students draw a picture about a time they made a difference in someone life or in their community. Hang them throughout the classroom to remind students and also encourage them to help others. ( )

Summary: This is a story about a man named Johnny Chapman. He worked at an apple orchard and he knew everything there was to know about apples. He decided to move west to start his own apple orachard. He also planted apple seeds then sold the young apple seeds to other settlers moving west. He planted and sold so many trees that people started calling him Johnny Appleseed.

Personal reflection: This is a book that I remember having read to me by my teacher when I was in kindergarten. I very vividly remember bringing an apple to school so that we could make apple sauce. I think this is such a cute book for children to read and it brought back a lot of good memories.

Extension ideas:
1. In the classroom, the teacher could have the students bring apples so that they too can make applesauce.
2. The class could have a history lesson about how the early settlers moved to the west.
3. For an art project they could paint apple orchards.

Summary: This book is about a boy named Johnny in Massachusets over 200 years ago. There were 12 kids in his family, and his house became crowded. To get away he would go read under a tree or watch animals play outside. When Johnny grew up he worked in the Apple Orchards, and when he learned the trade, he decided to move West. Johnny gave settlers seeds who were moving west so that they could grow apples too! By his gifting of apple seeds people began to call him Johnny Appleseed and because of him, he left thousands of apple trees.

Personal Reflection: Every kid should know the story of Johnny Appleseed! This book is a good book to use in a classroom because of the many activities you can do and kids love the pan hat!

Classroom Extention:
1.) Give students apple seeds so they can go plant them like Johnny Appleseed.
2.) Do an activity where they color their favorite kind of apple (red, green, yellow) and put them on the wall.
3.) Do math activities counting seeds and/or apples.

Johnny Appleseed is a tall tale that has been retold for years and probably has some truth but is definitely stretched a little bit. John Chapman loved being outdoors and is told to be responsible for spreading apple seeds across the US. When he got older he decided to move out west. He wore a pot on his head and plant apple seeds anywhere he could. He would sell the apples to the families that were moving west as well. After a while people started calling him Johnny Appleseed.
