Deze bespreking was geschreven voorLibraryThing lid Weggevers. How to describe Coffee? How about saying that this is what happens when someone who is tripping starts playing with ClipArt. The book was visually attractive at points. But the text was confusing, jumbled, and senseless. Halfway through it I started to realize how much of a waste of time this book was. Maybe I have to be stoned to understand it... Deze bespreking was geschreven voorLibraryThing lid Weggevers. Coffee, by Marc Fiszman, is best described as an existential, minimalist comic book. Using a series of geometrical shapes and patterns of black and white, Fiszman presents a tale of a man who discovers deeper meaning in his daily (and sometimes hourly) cup of joe. This enlightenment unlocks a new world for him where he has the potential to become a new deity. While not the best narrative structure, the book does do a lot with a little, and develops its own symbolic language as the story progresses. At times, however, it reads like a PowerPoint presentation. It’s not for everybody, especially with the occasional crass joke. However, may be suitable for fans of the graphic novel, looking for something a little different. Deze bespreking was geschreven voorLibraryThing lid Weggevers. I thought this book was boring,Mr Fiszman I like that you take risks, but only in my opinion it did not work. Not for me anyway. To me it is childish and in a way it makes you really think, so whom ever reads this book is going to have to be a brainack or use their heads for a living. Some jobs you can do without thinking a whole lot, and there are jobs that you have to use your noggin.I hope this doesnt offend you it is just an opinion about a book not you persay. Suddenly thrust into a corporeal human body that is a cog in the white collar society. Not sure what's going on, but it sure is boring. That is, until consciousness is duplicated and displaced into steaming mugs of coffee. It's the beginning, the beginning of ascension.I'm not really sure how to classify this. It uses its words, but has plenty of visual elements--that look computer generated from the early days. I wouldn't really call it a comic or graphic novel, but I think I'll go with 'visually enhanced'. Coffee is very quirky. Small moments reminded me of both [Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy] and the movie Office Space. I don't think this will get popular in the mainstream, but I see potential to be a cult book--highly popular with some groups. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

This honestly looks to me to be an account of someone's trip through psychosis.
I am about 2/3 of the way through the book thus far, and have begun to struggle with the random strangeness overwhelming my sense of reality and ability to follow the thread of story.
It's actually quite well and entertainingly written. I think it is easier for those of us that are heavily into science fiction and fantasy.
I intend on getting some other opinions as to if this might be a good thing for people to read if they need to understand someone suffering from psychosis.
So I finished Coffee - definitely reinforced my idea that it's a description of a psychotic episode or a hallucinogenic trip .... ( )
