Chronicling Churchill's life from his boyhood through his dismissal as First Lord of the Admiralty after the disastrous Dardanelles expedition, 1757 Churchill : Young Man In a Hurry 1874-1915, by Ted Morgan (read 7 Dec 1982) This is not a great book but its subject made it fascinating. The author is not a scholar. I have tremendously enjoyed biographies by non-scholars--W. A. Swanberg is a good example--but all the way through this book I had the idea the author was not a great writer. But the book is full of parliamentary history, and I enjoyed it. It is also kind of psychohistory, and brings out things like Winston Churchill's brother almost surely was not the son of Randolph Churchill. Churchill comes through in the book as pushy, brilliant, self-centered. unbright academically, and not at all a likeable person. It ends with Churchill out of the Cabinet and on his way to France in late 1915. It is an amazing story, and about a lot of things that interest me a lot: British Parliamentary history and World War One. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
