This book is a great example of contemporaneity realistic fiction, as it deals with real life problems such as bullies, older siblings, and loosing teeth. Although our story is a work of fiction, Freddy deals with real life problems. Problems most students can relate to. Student will also have fun looking for the word "Fin" within the pictures. The author also includes in each book fun activities and facts about sharks, which are Freddy's favorite animal. Media: pencil Freddy Thresher is the only first grader who hasn’t lost a tooth, but he will do everything he can to change that. He wants to write his name inside “The Big Tooth” like everyone else in Mrs. Wushy’s class who has lost a tooth, but he must wait his turn. He tries everything from string on a doorknob to facing the school bully in a fight in hopes of a punch right in the teeth. Lower elementary school readers will resonate with the feelings associated with being ‘last’ or ‘left out’. The childish dialogue will keep them reading as Freddy battles the wills with his sister Suzie in classic scenarios of sibling rivalry. The painterly illustrations interact with the text in crisp black and white drawing by challenging the reader to find the word “fin” hidden in every picture. The end of the book includes Freddy’s fun pages which consist of Freddy’s shark journal (his last name Thresher has made him an expert on sharks and he always wears a shark T-shirt), a silly fill-in-the-blanks story, and instructions on how to make a tooth fairy pillow. Tooth Trouble launches the beginning of the Ready, Freddy! series. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
