NO OF PAGES: 268 SUB CAT I: Jewish - Christian Relations SUB CAT II: SUB CAT III: DESCRIPTION: After spending five years attending a Hebrew Scripture study group, Chever Torah, evangelical Christian Athol Dickson decided to write a book that might create a genuine encounter between Christian and Jewish interpretations of Scripture. With simple yet profound language, this book investigates some of the primary theological differences between Christianity and Judaism as well as the common ground. Passionately tied to scriptural text, each chapter looks at Christian and Jewish perspectives on various topics as the implications for all readers are explored. For Jewish readers, Dickson presents Christianity as "a reasonable response to the books of Moses, the writings, and the prophets." For Christian readers, the book is offered as "a welcome confirmation that the most basic tenets of our faith are rooted in the earliest moments of creation, in the Garden, in the cool of the day."NOTES: Purchased from the Amazon Marketplace. SUBTITLE: What my Jewish Friends Taught Me About Jesus This book resonates with me profoundly. It hasn't served to reinforce my existing beliefs, but rather to re-examine them. It feels dangerous but necessary and brings me to a place of "ahhh...I don't have to shun all of my curiosities in order to have genuine faith." It opens my heart to compassion and empathy rather than superiority and dogma. I absolutely loved this book...there was a sense of relief that the questions that I've wrestled with in Scripture were "OK"...this book gave me the freedom to question the Text and find that the answers are beautiful, wonderful, and oftentimes elusive! The questions that Dickson chose to use in his book are fascinating and at times uncomfortable...and then you realize that 'in God' there truly is freedom...freedom to question, to argue, to wrestle...to be in awe... Can't recommend this book enough! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
"Years ago I exposed myself to the possibility that Judaism might have great truths to offer, and Chever Torah (Jewish Bible study) rewarded my open mind with radical improvements in the way I live and view my Christian faith." -from the Introduction After he spent five years attending Chever Torah, Athol Dickson found his faith radically changed-the result being a deeper relationship with God. In beautiful and simple language, The Gospel according to Moses illustrates Dickson's journey of faith exploring some of the primary theological differences and similarities between Christianity and Judaism. He draws generously on both Old and New Testament scriptures, looking at Christian and Jewish perspectives on topics such as suffering, grace vs. works, and the place of Jesus in the Hebrew Scriptures.
