"First Love" - Interesting psychological drama. Has the feel (at least in my berlin/shapiro translation) similar to Stoker's "Dracula" and Wolstoncraft's "Frankenstein". However, there is no evil presence; just the sense that some major disaster is impending, which Turgeneve carries on for quite awhile without over doing it.

Spring Torrents is a much more enjoyable read. In many ways, the characters seem more understandable to today's reader.
