Destiny Called - They Answered In the dark recesses of Tyria, elder dragons have awoken from millennial slumbers. First came Primordus, which stirred in the Depths forcing the asura to flee to the surface. Half a century later, Jormag awoke and drove the norn from the frozen climes of the Northern Shiverpeaks, corrupting sons and brothers along the way. A generation later, Zhaitan arose in a cataclysmic event that reshaped a continent and flooded the capital of the human nation of Kryta. The races of Tyria stand on the edge of destiny. Heroes have battled against dragon minions, only to be corrupted into service of the enemy. Armies have marched on the dragons and been swep aside. The dwarves sacrificed their entire race to defeat a single dragon champion. The age of mortals may soon be over. nbsp; This is a time for heroes. While the races of Tyria stand apart, six heroic individuals will come together to fight for their people: Eir, the norn huntress with the soul of an artist; Snaff, the asuran genius, and his ambitious assistant Zojja; Rytlock, the ferocious charr warrior in exile; Caithe, a deadly sylvari with deep secrets; and Logan, the valiant human guardian dealing with divided loyalties. Together they become Destiny's Edge. Together they answer the call. But will it be enough?… (meer)

This book wasn't very good, but I read on just to know the full story of Guild Wars 2.

Some thoughts:

Snaff was a great character
The relationships between the members of Destiny's Edge were really touching, the brotherhood between Rytlock and Logan, the father/daughter love between Snaff and Zojja

-I really hate Logan and Jennah's insta-love. He comes off as a complete doofus and she comes off as cold and manipulative. Their letters were super cringy and the dose of brainwashing from Jennah wasn't cool
-Eir didn't get much development, did she? She's definitely an interesting character but she was so stereotypically Norn it hurt.
-The last few chapters.. Logan leaves his friends to fail and possibly die but he evokes the name of Rytlock to a group of jailed Charr so they would join in his fight?! Rytlock could be dead at that very moment and Logan just uses his name so easily.

This book put me off on a lot of characters. I came in knowing that Logan left them at the end but I always figured he had a dire reason. He's just a lovesick, possibly brainwashed jackass... ( )

Pure fluff! I would have only given this novel 1 and a half stars if I had been allowed.
Thank the Gods that victory over the Guild Wars game is not as easy to finish as some of the arch villains were portrayed in this book. If that had been the case, I would have upon completion IMMEDIATELY deleted it from my computer, never to play again.
Also, some of the elements/characters introduced to this book were completely non-essential. I have to wonder if the author was looking for something to use to help fill out the pages he was contracted for because he had run out of actual substance.

Great book that introduces us to Destiny's Edge and sets up the world of Guild Wars 2 for those us anticipating that release.

We see how Destiny's Edge forms, how they become world-renowned heroes (not henchmen), and we see what breaks them up.

The book is a series of missions, each leading to a boss fight, with a massive end-game battle on two fronts - and while I use game-play terms to describe it there, it's not at all "just a game book".

The relationships that form are moving, and seeing them fall apart is truly heart-breaking.

Fans of Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 must read this. Fans of fantasy in-general should find this a welcome addition to their reading list.

Edge of Destiny was a good book and a decent introduction to the lore and history of Guild Wars 2. It was standard in terms of writing style for the genre, which definitely isn’t a bad thing.

I really enjoyed most of the characters. I found the plot a bit choppy in terms of pacing, but it wasn’t overall distracting. I think the author handled the subject matter and the characters/lore in the best way he could. ( )

It's not brilliant writing, but let's face it, the primary reason I picked this book up was my love of Guild Wars. I was dying to know more about the world of the sequel, how it all had changed in 250 years. I wasn't particularly interested in Destiny's Edge, as all we knew about them was that Logan is a descendant of Gwen and Kieran. The book did get me interested in the group, and their dynamics, and I felt it gave me a lot for when Guild Wars 2 finally came out - when the game's story unfolded, I felt more for the characters because I had experienced their past through this book. It definitely adds much to the lore. The writing isn't bad, either; it flows okay, even if it isn't a masterpiece. A good enough tie-in novel. ( )
