Do animals celebrate Valentine's Day? Nobody knows for sure. But this funny (and punny) little book imagines how some of them declare their love, affection, or friendship any day of the year."Nice to Meetcha! You smell delish!/Wanna share my water dish?" So asks one tail-thumping dog to another. Whereas a courting dolphin sings, "Come, leap with me and be my wife./You're the porpoise of my life." Ranging from dogs and cats and other pets to some you wouldn't want to pet, such as sharks and porcupines, acclaimed poet Marilyn Singer's captivating couplets and Lee Wildish's expressively humorous illustrations provide a Valentine's Day gift for kids who wouldn't be caught dead being lovey-dovey.… (meer)

This is a really fun poem book for young children. The puns and the rhyming of the poems make reading it really fun. The illustrations are also very bright and colorful which would interest children.

Fun poems and fun illustrations. Poems all about animals that would be cute to read around Valentines Day. Playful rhymes that I could see young students laughing at like sharks being mentally and dentally a match. ( )

I thought these poems were cheesy and cute. I think this book could be a fun read during valentines day. The illustrations allowed you to see that animals find love, just like humans.

I loved this cute book of poems! I love the animal theme, and thought the artwork was really cute. If I was a parent I would definitely buy this book for my child.

Summary: this is a cute book of poems from animals to animals. Each poem is short and rhymes. There are pictures of earthworms, caterpillars, bats and even porcupines.

Personal reaction: I like the pictures and short rhyming poems of this book. It's truly a book for children, which I think they would like.

Extension: Using this book to teach the students about rhyming words and sounds. And I would use it to help them make up their own poems.
